Do English teachers in Korea make effort to learn Korean at all? There are discrimination if you're unable to speak fluent Japanese as a "gaijin"

Same as back home, in America, if you're unable to speak fluent English they also take bunch of crap from the natives or even from their own ethnic groups

Isn't how things are in real life?

in Japan there are a lot of teachers who make effort to speak Japanese to Japanese people... a lot of Japanese people will simply reply in Japanese when foreigner tries to initiate conversation in English...

Well.. so how is Korea? how is your Korean?

My Korean is wonderful, but a bit hung over today from partying last night.

Are you drunk?

i'd say this is the exact opposite in korea. if they know any english whatsoever, they will try to use it. you speak korean, they will answer in english. just one recent example, i was stood by the subway station, and some guy tried to make conversation. "Age what?" "Country is?" etc where the best attempts he could make. I politely (i think) tried to make some simple Q&A in korean, because my korean, even though basic, was clearly better than his english. he was having none of it. he just kept ignoring me and babbling on in broken english.
