It's an interesting idea but this thread will be rendered useless because

1: Defaming schools in a public forum has not been popular in the past

and

2: Most bad schools change their names and owners so any information is questionable at best.

But if this thing kicks off and isn't deleted, i'll post my old hagwon I despise...... Twisted Evil

There's a few of them, but most of them aren't kept up or don't work anymore.

With all the foreigners teaching in Korea these days it would be great if someone outside the country could run and maintain a proper blacklist site.

Check out the following old post. I made some of my few thoughts know there.

http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?t=131426&highlight=Blacklist

Why, you ask are their no real good blacklists. As I comment in the thread above - laziness. Yep, I am one of the lazy!

Also, why should some one out there in the wide web make and maintain a site that you will want for FREE and will only use a few times. Also likely not contribute, too in the end. Their is no benefit for a mod or server own to run. Actually I bet they would likely get problems with running a site - legal threats, hacking, spam, fake posts, etc.

People at times really want somebody to do all the work for them. Do your own work! Interview past teachers, talk to recent teachers, email. If the school does not want to provide info - refuse the job. Simple as that!

I just checked out the above link. And as I looked it was the usual - small grievences or no real info - one whined about a package being stolen, two where about racism, A few postive (aka whitelist). But in the end all quite short posts that do not answer the really meaty questions. What I look for in the end is - Am I paid? On time?, Am I going to be cheated out of severance, or plane ticket? What the apartment is like. All things that I can find out if I do my own leg work.

Still it is nice to dream that one day there will be a really nice blacklist site made and operated.

not everyone is treated equally anyway - which means not all schools are the same in everyone's eyes - some teachers will be treated well and others like crap - for whatever reason -

also directors change, owners change, circumstances change. what's relevant today isn't tomorrow.

Do not work at (REDACTED) in (REDACTED). I used to work there (REDACTED) years ago. They'll cheat you out your (REDACTED) money, make you work (REDACTED) hours a (REDACTED), (REDACTED) you and (REDACTED) you without a single (REDACTED) or (REDACTED). And (REDACTED) (REDACTED) (REDACTED) (REDACTED)! That was hard to take, to say the least!

I think I'm safe from a libel lawsuit now.

I'd have to agree that you can't put all of your eggs in one basket. Instead of banking on one reputable agency why not try several at once? Make them work for you, after all they get a placement fee if you pan out. I'm beginning to feel redundant at this point but for the west coast I'd look into both www.asknow.ca and www.esl411.com. For jobs on the east coast I've heard really great things about www.kimnjoe.com . Hope that helps...don't get discouraged, there are tons of schools out there.
