Today I went to Haddon House market in the UN Village. I have been impressed by the selection there and think it's better than Hannam Market, at least in terms of having what I'm personally looking for. Some of the things there that are hard to come by in Korea include:

- Kraft mac and cheese (4000 a box, but totally worth it)
- tortillas
- naan bread
- taco seasoning
- Indian and Thai sauces
- cherry coke by the can (I've seen it at E-mart recently, but only by the case)
- a few western cereals
- pop tarts (although a different brand)
- jasmine rice (didn't see basmati)
- black beans and kidney beans
- real cheese (monterrey jack, colby, and swiss - no cheddar today)
- deli style meat and sausage
- deoderant

Please take that list with a grain of salt; maybe there's an item that can be found at your local E-mart and I just haven't seen it.


People say the store tricky to get to for the first time, but I would say that's only because no one has posted precise directions for it. I think it can be found rather easily by following these directions:

- take the subway to Oksu Station, get out at Exit 4... you will come out facing a bus loop which is connected to the main road (by "main road", I mean the one the crosses underneath the subway station)
- turn right and walk along that main road... if you soon see a strip mall with a Baskin Robbins and Century 21 side-by-side, you're on the right road
- follow the road up the steep hill all the way to the top... it's a bit rough, but good exercise... at the top of the hill, the road ends at a T-intersection
- at the T-intersection, turn left... you will walk past a GS gas station... the market is in the second building after that gas station (you'll definitely see a sign in the front)... the market is in the basement

And, just to clarify possible confusion:

Haddon House is located at the entrance of the Hannam Heights apartment complex.

Hannam Market, despite its name, is kilometres away from the Hannam Heights apartment complex. The two have nothing to do with each other.

There is a bus apparently for those who don't want to walk from the station. Near exit 5/6 a bus called seongdong09 goes up and stops at the intersection near the store. The seoul bus website falls apart trying to find the route, but its there if you dig through it.

Sounds like a lot of the stuff they are offereing (blocks of cheese, cherry coke by the can, deli meats, etc) are coming from Costco at a markup (same thing that the Foreign Food Market (next to What The Book in Itaewon) does...

Do yourself a favour, get a membership... If you're looking for Western food goodness you'll thank me later

I went this morning. Great selection and setup. The prices are a bit high, but I didn't have to deal with the Korean hordes shoving their carts into my feet! Yes, Costco is cheaper, but not having to deal with Koreans made me smile!

I realize very few will care, but I am in Busan and completely jealous of everyone living the good life in Seoul. There truly must be a considerable difference between Seoul and the rest of the Hermit Kingdom. To all you Seoulites enjoying a multitude of cuisine, I hope you choke on it!!

Yes, probably not. I know this is off subject, but I would think that if the lunatics above were going to "set it off", they would hit Seoul and Busan simultaneously. One would think they would atleast have two "blasters" prepared to go.....

If they did hit Busan, I'm staying and ending my existance on this rock. I will not spend the rest of my life battling radiation sickness. it's just not worth it!!

Haddon House is ridiculously overpriced - and their cheese is often expired or about to - so look carefully at those dates folks.

I was going to buy a butterball frozen turkey breast there - mind you, it was just the breast - they wanted 30,000 won for it!!!! I said no.

almost everything they sell now can be found elsewhere - maybe everything - and for a cheaper price -

even Kim's club has a decent foreigner's food section, best prices for canned goods, soups, s&w veges, etc. as well as bottled sauces. try the one near the express bus terminal.
