|
|
My lovely hagwon decided to take advantage of the fact that immigration only gave me a 6 month visa, so now they are trying to get me to renegotiate my contract, even though we signed for one year.
They will let me leave, and will "release me" if I wish (as if I am obligated to them, since they are the ones not renewing unless I re-sign a contract!).
The problem is, they sprang this on me about 10 days before the due date on my E-2. I'm not happy with the situation they want me to sign for, so I have agreed to just leave.
Is it too late to file for a visa extention, so I can search for another job, or will I have to do a Japan run just to get a tourist visa?
Thanks! |

I don't believe it's too late to file for a 30 day visa extension, but you do have to bring along an air ticket showing you will be leaving before the expiry date of the extension. If you can find a job quickly and get the invitation letter sorted out within the 30 days, your new school could pay you for the air ticket as it would then be for a visa run. If not, you will have to leave, but could always come back on a tourist visa and take your time looking.
Hope this helps. |

Derrek, you & I seem to have similar luck on bars, girls & jobs . . .
I just wrote a LONG post about basically the same thing - you have 2 weeks from when the contract ends to get things fixed. You MAY be eligible for a Change of Sojourn, but your situation, nationality, finances, and a lot of just plain luck will determine if you get it, and for how long.
Regards,
