| There are so many choices, so many options, so many price points! Any suggestions on which one is best? I don't mind spending the extra money if one is far and away better... |

| Anybody? Basically, as I become more proficient in Korean, I find that my cell phone dictionary is not as useful as I'd like. I'm interested in a dictionary that includes phrases and idioms in both English and Korean. Spoken pronunciation is not necessary. |

most dictionaries you find are for koreans learning english. The extra features will be tailored towards them, not the other way around.
My phone dictionary actually has a fair number of idiomatic meanings in it, but generally for individual words, or sometimes pairs, but usually not full sentences. I don't know about Korean to English though. |

I agree w/ what the others have said on this post about buying an electronic Korean-English/English-Korean dictionary. However, if you really need an e-dictionary and don't have enough time or cash to go to HK, Singapore or the Philippines, I recommend the Nurian R9 electronic dictionary. I got it at Bandi & Lunis for W105,000. Yes, that was the least expensive one that they had. (BTW, I do NOT work for Nurian.) Anyway, the Nurian R9 has the following dictionary functions:
1. Korean-English
2. English-Korean
3. Hanja dictionary (Chinese characters used in the Korean language)
4. Collins English Thesarus/Dictionary/Grammar Guide
Item #4 has come in quite handy at work, especially at my former school when one of my co-teachers and I constantly got into English spelling and grammar arguments in the middle of class. (We continued those "fights" after class...)
My students and co-workers have used it to look up Korean words and English words. Outside of work, I have used my e-dictionary when shopping and looking up unfamiliar words in Korean manhwa. I found the e-dictionary to be quite helpful.
It does have an English-Chinese dictionary. It would have been nice a few months ago when I went to Shanghai...oh well.
There is a quad-lingual (English, Korean, Japanese and Chinese) dialogue section, but it's only good for conversation practice. I suppose if you're really desperate, you can use that section....
There's also a Korean-Japanese/Japanese-Korean, Korean-Chinese/Chinese-Korean dictionary, but that won't really help you unless you're a Korean studying one of those languages. However, you can set the menu language in one of four languages (English, Chinese, Korean, Japanese) or use the icon menu instead. The calendar, phone/address book and calculator functions are quite nice too.
Just keep looking around, until you find an e-dictionary that meets your needs and your budget.
I hope that helps. Good luck. |

| Majeh, thanks for your reply! I'll definitely check into the dictionary you got. That one sounds great! |
