For those into green tea, where do you buy your leaves in Korea? The stuff they sell at the department stores seem to be pricey and then the cheaper kind is POWDER, which I'm not sure about.

I also know that to get the maximum health effects from green tea, you shouldn't get the tea bags since the bags could also filter out certain nutrients and have the potential to be carcinogenic.

You usually get what you pay for so pricey could still be worthwhile. Some friends of mine got me some locally grown (near Kyongju) green tea and the price was around 40,000 won. The powdered green tea is awesome as seasoning in just about anything. Sprinkle it on your ramien noodles, in milk, in kimchi chigae, etc., it is fabulous. I think the Japanese use it to make a cold beverage.

Uh, I'm not into green tea as a seasoning. I think Korea is going a little overboard in making green tea latte, ice cream and the like.

I'm tempted to buy powdered form,

Someone told me that the bags can be bad for your health if you use them too much.

And I think something in powdered form versus extracted via leaves would be more efficent in terms of nutrients.

But that's just guesstulating

Theoretically, green tea ingredients are better absorbed as powder than as leaves.

But so do the heavy metals in the green tea. (A professor from a Korean university did this study and showed us this result). But that should not be a sufficient reason you choose not powder.

I am drinking 3 cups of strong green tea everyday at least. Green tea leaves is rediculously pricy here,I soon have to drink in a Korean way I guess----one tea bag in one liter water.
