Saw for the first time this morning the new 50,000won note.

I don't understand though why they didn't bring out a 20,000won note first.

You imagine everytime you hand one of them over the counter or to a taxi driver and see their eyes role.

Will this cut down on foreigners pulling out their W300k gangster rolls at every opportunity?

Who's on it? I thought I saw a female, possibly Yu-Gwan Soon? I'd like to see a female on their biggest denomination.

Shin Saim-dang, the mother of Lee Yul-gok (the guy on the 5,000KRW note), is on the 50,000KRW note.

Someone pointed out before that they're matching their coin denominations. There used to be 1 and 5 won coins. The bills will likely match, 1, 5, 10, 50, 100, 500..etc.

Yay, just got one. I've just noticed that the more a note is worth, the longer it is, so the 50,000 note is the longest.

Is anyone here paid with the 100,000 won checks or the 1,000,000 won checks? I am. It kind of scares me, because I would not be able to change these outside of the US. Are my employers able to call the bank and void them (like a check) if they so desire?

It is about time Korea came out with a higher bill. Personally, I think they should have made a 20,000 won bill and a 50,000 won bill. I think breaking a 50,000 won bill may have a lot of problems, such as cabs or street venders, if you only get two of them when you widthdraw demoninations of 50,000 example, 100,000 won.

Does this mean when I draw out 50k or more at an ATM, I will get an option to select between 10k and 50k notes?

Guess I'll have to fold the 100,000 to fit it into my wallet.

I can see myself spending a lot more when carrying this baby around. It makes you think in larger denominations. Kind of like pay-day. Think of impulse buying - five of these thin ladies gets me a new IPOD etc. Counting the green guys was a sobriety check....25 green guys = 5 of the ladies.

Maybe that was part of the plan, to get consumers to spend more by distorting their sense of buying power. Kind of coincidental to release their largest denomination during an economic crisis, no?

My understanding is 20 is a bad luck number. I have no idea if that is true.
