Im doing something that I never thought I would living in a foreign country without any insurance. Read a Korean Herald article the other week <Expats rally to help friend in hospital> and that kind of got the mental gears going. I was covered under Koreas National Health Program through my academy until my last contract expired, but now Im in a position where the health coverage is optional and Ive just let it slide. According to Koreas NHIC (National Health Insurance Corporation) I can join their insurance plan at any time with only one catch I have to pay for coverage (70,000/month) from the time my current visa was issued (over 500,000 Won). A Korean friend looked into AIG and a few other insurance policies for me, but claims that you can only enroll in one of these plans if you are covered by NHIC.

Can any readers recommend a good global expat insurance policy? I looked a bit into William Russell http://www.william-russell.com/ but the premiums seem a bit high and can change from year to year.

If you're looking for a global / emergency medical coverage / evacuation type thing, I did some looking around and Multinational Underwriters seem to have ok policies. Never had to use it so can't really attest to it's quality. It would be from maybe 250 to 400 USD for a year of coverage.

cover your ass.
