Hey guys,

So, on Saturday (er... Sunday morning) I left my wallet and a bag in the backseat of a Taxi going from Itaewon into Ilsan.

I don't remember exactly which kind of cab I took out of Itaewon, so I'm not too sure which company I should call to see if they have my stuff. I don't suppose anyone here has a list of the main cab companies that work out of Itaewon so I might just start calling them up to see if they have my stuff. The bag is a big orange messenger bag so it's pretty easy to pick out.

Any help would be awesome, thanks!

I've done that a few times. Best to kiss the stuff goodbye. There are too many cab companies in Seoul to keep track of, and taxi drivers move through the city like the wind. There is no 'one' company that works through Itaewon, as far as I know.

If you are determined to cover your bases, can you at least remember if it was a black, silver/white, or orange cab? That might narrow your search. The black ones are luxury, the orange ones (brand new) are International, and the silver ones are every/day. If it was a silver/white (i.e. not black or orange) cab, kiss the stuff goodbye.

Arg... nah, I totally have to get that stuff back.

In my wallet I've got my ARC card, and in my bag I've got my passport and a years worth of journals. As well as my cellphone. My name is all over all that stuff, and I've filed police reports in back Ilsan and Itaewon. All they've got to do it turn on the phone and call some numbers (which hadn't happened as of yesterday).

I know they're supposed to bring it back to their HQ or whatever (that's what the cops say), so I'm going to check the CCTVs near where I was dropped off.

I'm pretty sure it was a silver one though. Still, this stuff's too important to let go, and that bag's too big to go unnoticed.

There is a traffic station that you can have someone call to put out a broadcast to all taxis and they will let them know your phone number. This happened to me in Gwangju once (I lost a camera) and I got it back a few hours later. You will definately need the help of a Korean on this one though.

Have a Korean try calling your cell phone to see if anyone answers. That might put you back in arms length of your belongings. Better hurry as the battery time is running out.

The battery is already dead. It was pretty low that night. You wouldn't happen to know the traffic station number you were talking about?

I've had my Korean friend send a text that if they turn on the phone to please give his number a call. I've been trying for the past few days, but no one's turned on the phone yet.

So yeah, that traffic station number would be awesome.

I don't know what the number is, but you could possibly call the Seoul Call Center at 120 and ask them to help you.

Well, I had my councilor call the 120 info place. They said they don't have a system where you can call all the cab companies, but you can call each particular company and they can put out a notice to all of their drivers.

So, I had her go to the www.stj.or.kr website, which is the Seoul cab association website, and there are numbers for four major cab companies that operate in Seoul. She called each one, though no one reported anything yet, but she said each one would put out a bulletin to their drivers.

This is kind of depressing, as I have a years worth of journals in my bag, and I've been all over the world with that thing. There's really nothing of monetary value in it, just sentimental. I'm hoping the driver will at least put some effort in getting it returned.

Like I said, I've filed police reports in both Ilsan and Itaewon, but I'm wondering if there are any other avenues I might take. I figure there must be hundreds of cab companies operating in Seoul, so calling each one might be a tad difficult. Any other options you guys might have would be greatly appreciated.
