Well, I don't do that, but I don't see what the big deal is. If something is valued at $50, then I sell it for 50,000 won. There is no confusion, and I don't inflate the won because the dollar is stronger due to the fact Korea is intentionally keeping the exchange rate low to make exports more likely.
If you are selling your stuff to people in other countries, then I can see where the confusion lies (you would be morally due the amount from the exchange rate). If you are a seller and you jack up the price to people within the country, then you are milking the system and taking advantage of other teachers. |

It doesn't just confuse me, I just skip the item completely and don't even consider buying it. Where am I supposed to get dollars from? I'm not even American! |

OK, so I wouldn't WANT to get $ because I'd be paying 8 or 10 times more for it then. I assume you are in Korea, and where round here do you pay the Koreans in $, except on the army bases?
You're just shooting yourself in the foot by asking $, fewer people will go to the trouble to buy your shit, because they will have to change the currency an extra time. |

if someone asks you to pay $50 and they accept 50 000 KRW, the best thing to do is shut up and accept the 20% discount! |

I explained above my reasoning. Ultimately it comes down to the buyer and what they are willing to pay. All things considered, I wouldn't pay 20% more for something because it is relatively lower than another currency.
If you don't like the idea of losing 10,000 because you sold something you felt was $50 for 50,000, then how on earth do you like the idea of a teacher in Korea earning 2.2 million won and losing 5 million won when they send money back home after a year?
We have bigger fish to fry than 10,000 won from a sale on Dave's |

Yes, but if you sell 10 things and lose 10 000 for every item.... do I need to do the math here? |

I see you rationalizing charging more. Can you see me rationalizing paying less? When you shop, pay less, and if need be shop less often (save up). When you sell, sell for less. You end up even. If you buy for less and then sell higher, you not only have your 100% back, but you have earned a little profit.
If your goal is to just spend what you have and sell everything you bought, then you have different goals than I do. |

Well, if people ask 50 dollars I presume they accept 65k won. I leave the onus for exchanging it onto them. If they don't accept that then there's no sale. Why should I make a special trip to the exchange bank? |

Nobody loses money.
Currency exchange is not set in stone, things have changed, that's all.
The only way to avoid this is to earn money in the same currency you need it in.
Things always change. |
