Has anyone transferred their E-2 visa to a D-2 visa.
My E-2 expires at the end of August. I am going to study
Korean at a university language center starting in early
September. I was wondering if it was possible to transfer visas.
Anyone have any experience with this?
Also, while on the subject, what's up with the work situation with a
D-2. I read that, legeally, after a semester, you can work up to
20 hours a week, pending approval of your university language
center. Anyone have experience with this? Anything would be greatly
appreciated.

According to Yonsei, you may be asked to leave Korea and return in order to process a visa status transfer.

According to Korea net, you are allowed to work up to twenty hours per week. You must submit a letter of permission from you school to do so.

Some of the info is a couple of years old. So, I'd just give immigration a ring and ask.

Thanks a lot for the info.
The info I looked at also appeared to be a couple of years old.
I just wanted to see if anyone had any first hand experience.
I'll give immigration a ring.
Thanks again!

D-2 is not for studying Korean. Its for studying something else, like an MBA or Korean studies or something.

If you want to study Korean, you can change from an e2 to a D-4-4 without leaving the country. You cant legally work on that.

Youll need a letter of acceptance from the school, proof of at least 3 million won, 50,000 passport and alien card.

Everyone works part-time on the D4 anyway. The semester fees are equally as expensive as a degree course, it's unbelievably stupid to prevent students from working. They must only want rich kids studying here, obviously.. Rolling Eyes

Btw you could study Korean at a degree level, that'd get you the D2.
