Did you know that Beware the White Ugly English Teachers was actually a headline in one of the Korean papers?
What would you call that? Racebaiting?
What kind of mentality does one need to have to actually respect a mindset like that?
By the way, I got my information from today's expatliving section in the Korean Herald.

Beward? And you call yourself an English teacher.
Are you white? Are you ugly? Are you an English teacher? If you meet all three of those criteria then yes you should be very offended indeed. Although if you're a pedophile, you should get out of the country. FAST! |

About the headline, sure it's just another thing to take on the chin but really it's totally unnecessary. |

some of them are definitely white.
Casper the Ghost white.
get some sun for chrissakes, please! pallidity and pastiness are not attractive qualities.l
as to ugly, well no more or less than your typical crossection of society and in their defense I definitely saw some attractive Westerners of both sexes in Seoul last weekend. |

| There was a group sporting blackface and making fake tribal noises on some variation of gag concert over the weekend. Making fun of race, even on a show geared towards a younger audience, is evidently OK. |

That reminds me of the Mr. Pizza Indian curry pizza commercial. They were all wearing belly dancer costumes and being very culturally stereoptypical...
Americans in the west portray Native Americans as hopping around with axes and feathers praying for rain.

◇ 안동에서 일하는 외국인 강사 T씨가 한 채팅사이트에 올린 자신의 프로필(왼쪽)과 외국인강사 A씨가 옛 애인에게 에이즈 감염 가능성을 언급하며 협박한 이메일.
◇ KITA(한국원어민강사 리쿠르팅 협회) 측이 올린 블랙리스트
백인 외국인강사들의 도를 지나친 변태 행각이 공개돼 충격을 주고 있다.
일부 백인 외국인강사들은 한국여성들이 영어습득에 적극적이고, 흑인강사에 비해 선호도가 높은 점을 이용해 편집증적인 성추행과 성희롱을 일삼고 있는 것으로 드러났다.
한국여성 김모씨(여ㆍ31)는 최근 친구의 생일파티에서 호주출신 원어민 강사 A씨(30)를 만나 연인관계로 발전했다. 하지만 A씨의 지나친 집착과 폐인적인 면모에 질려 곧 결별을 통보했다.
앙심을 품은 A씨는 자신의 에이즈 감염 가능성을 깨닫고 강제로 김씨와 성관계를 맺었다. A씨는 지난 2월7일 김씨에게 보낸 이메일을 통해 "지난해 필리핀서 술에 취해 창녀 두명과 콘돔 없이 섹스했다. 그후 한국에 돌아와 너와도 콘돔없이 성관계를 가졌다. 너무 두려워 말할 수가 없었다. 참 안된 일이라고 생각한다. 난 (에이즈)테스트조차 받지 않았다. 네가 나에게 한 일(결별 통보 등)을 생각하면 그래도 싸다고 생각하고 아주 만족스럽다. 네가 좋은 애였다면 죄책감을 느꼈을텐데. 꾸며낸 얘기가 아니라 전부 사실이다. 방콕에서 에이즈 테스트를 싼 가격에 받을 수 있다고 하니 다행"이라고 말했다.
KITA(한국원어민강사 리쿠르팅 협회) 측은 홈페이지에 A씨를 블랙리스트란에 올리며 "학생 몸에 손을 많이 대는 사람이다. 성추행범 정도의 수준이니 절대 채용하지 말라. 학생과 학부모의 강력한 항의로 해고했다"고 경고했다. 하지만 A씨는 현재 서울 혜화동 모 학원에서 일하고 있는 것으로 알려졌다.
또 경남 마산의 영어학원과 초등학교에서 1년간 근무한 미국출신 B강사(40)는 자녀가 4명이나 있는 기혼남임에도 불구, 이혼남으로 가장해 한국여성들을 희롱한 혐의를 받고 있다. 피해여성들은 보복을 우려해 일제히 인터뷰를 거부했으나 "음주와 집단 혼숙을 일삼는 등 사생활이 매우 난잡해 초등학생들에게 모범이 될 수 없는 사람"이라고 B강사를 평가했다.
B강사는 지난 2005년 근무했던 미국의 P고등학교에서 17세 여고생을 성추행해 쫓겨난 바 있다. 이 학교 학생 K씨는 "학교 궐기대회에서 한 여학생이 그의 얼굴에 파이를 묻히자 B씨는 여학생의 허리를 잡고 양 가슴 사이에 얼굴을 비벼댔다. 그리고 그는 곧 해고됐다"고 증언했다.
안동에 거주하는 또 다른 강사 T씨(43)는 한 채팅사이트 프로필 코너에서 '가장 소중한 것'을 "여자의 가슴, 허벅지, 등, 엉덩이의 곡선에서 반짝이는 땀을 보는 일"이라고 소개해 네티즌들의 빈축을 샀다. T강사는 또 '여가시간에 하고 싶은 일'로 '섹스'를 꼽기도 했다.
부산에서 영어강사로 일하는 홍모씨(여ㆍ2 는 "원어민강사의 90%가 백인이다. 한국인들의 인종차별적 성향과 학원 이미지를 좋게하려는 학원측 욕심이 빚어낸 결과"라며 "백인 원어민강사들은'영어를 배우려 접근하는 한국여자들은 쉽게 넘어간다(성관계를 쉽게 가질 수 있다)'고 생각하는 경향이 있다"고 말했다.
이같은 백인 외국인강사들의 노골적인 성적 발언과 성추행에 분개한 시민들은 자발적인 개선운동을 벌이고 있다. 회원수 1만4419명의 한 포털카페(안티잉글리쉬스펙트럼ㆍcafe.naver.com/englishspectrum.cafe)는 부적격 외국인강사 고발, 경찰과의 합동수사 등 '불법외국어강사 퇴출을 위한 국민운동'을 활발히 진행하고 있다. 카페 매니저 이모씨(아이디'엠투')는 "올해도 저질,호색한,부적격 원어민강사들을 이슈화하고 알리는데 주력할 것"이라고 밝혔다. < 김윤희 기자 [email protected]>
