I'm afraid my mate/friend might laugh. The two that did that did me at the time were Silence with Hannibal and Blair Witch. Since then there's been a few more. Well, as a kid, there were many, but I am wondering from a post 20 age view. There's a series called "Masters of Horror" not for the easily troubled. I'm still not enough desensitized I guess. Try "Jenifer" from "Masters of Horror" --if that doesn't hit you ...congrats.

Blair Witch is the scariest movie I've ever seen.

Imprint is pretty gruesome. Close-ups of needles under fingernails and fun stuff like that...

Same

In terms of corny horror, Prince of Darkness - an underrated and scary classic (available on Youtube)

I didn't find Blair Witch scary at all. The female character was so intensely annoying that I found myself rooting for the witch.
The original Japanese Ringu was creepy and the end part sent a shiver down my spine.

More traumatising than horrifying -

Try 'Requiem for a Dream.'

If the mother's breakdown and Electro Shock Treatment scene don't get to you: the final arse to arse double headed dildo for a $10 bag of smack certainly will...

Saw the latest 'Coffin Joe' movie at the Jeonju Film Festival a few months back. some of the torture scenes were hardocore.

I found 'Ringu 2' more chilling than the original.

Is that the video series from years and years ago that shows crazy stuff like actual footage of people dying in increasingly gruesome ways?

The Exorcist always had a super weird vibe to it.

Nothing is really scary.
Just some books maybe, but they're not intended to scare.

The Descent COULD be scary if you're claustrophobic.

I don't know how old it is. Not so old I would guess. It's fiction. It was on a TV channel, "Showtime." It's just horror, psychological and otherwise, insanity, torture, cannibalism, all that good stuff.

I thought Rage of the Cannibals was pretty gruesome. I saw it back in the very early 1980s in Germany. It was an Italian flick dubbed into German. It's definitely not for the faint of heart.

The 1980s remake of The Thing, I just found disgusting.

There's a Japanese movie (again from the 1980s) called The Door (the Japanese title is Doo-Eo, IIRC). It's a suspense drama with not that much dialogue. If you can find it, buy it. It's outstanding.

Another suspenseful one is The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, the 1992 version. I never saw the 1914 movie of the same name.

I believe that series is called "Faces of Death." The first one came out in 1978.

I wouldn't call this movie "scary" by any means. Disgusting, yes. Scary, no. It reminds me a lot of "I Spit on Your Grave," but even more graphic.

I haven't been truly freaked out by a movie in a long time. "Silence of the Lambs" was pretty scary. Also seeing the re-release of "The Exorcist" in a theater was pretty scary.

REC. made me jump a few times, and a couple of the images stuck with me. Those guys made a silk purse with a sow's ear budget on that one...
Similarly, the Blair Witch Project, while not scary really, did leave a bit of a mark, with it's final scene.

The only one that scared me in a 'wow, there is seriously an evil presence in the room with me right now' kind of way was the Ring. That movie really heebed the jeebies out of me...I never want to see it again, and never watched the original because I hear that one's even more so.

The Shining, too, though hammy and over the top and kinda predictable, had some intensely spooky images in it too, that still linger after many years...the twins in the hallway specifically I thought damn spooky.

The Exorcist was pretty appalling too. Mostly it was the sound tracks that did it in that case...the sound effects of hell, coming from the screaming kid, that they mixed by recording the death screams from slaughterhouses, were pretty intense.
