Why do Koreans like watermelon so much?

This is the third time this week that they've bought in watermelon at my school. And they keep on giving me watermelon even though I don't like it.

I didn't tell them I don't like watermelon...but they should be able to figure it out through their nunchi. I eat it and tell them it's delicious...why can't these stupid people figure out that I'm just being polite?

Why oh why did I ever leave my beloved homeland where every day is better than the one before it and fly halfway around the world to live in squalor among these savages?

And then there's the children...what's with that dong-chim? When they do it to me, I just try to laugh it off...but it's happening more and more frequently. With that madman to the North, why can't these people respect that I'm risking my life here to teach them English...you'd think that they'd respect that.

I mean sixty years ago some of my countrymen died here on this very spot for these people to be free. Of course these weren't people that I know or were related to me, or had any connection to me beyond being from my country, but still these people own ME a debt of gratitude.

Mind you the teachers aren't any better...every once in a while they'll interrupt my Internet surfing to ask me what word would be better to use in their test they are making for the students...what happened to consideration in this country?

Anyway thanks for listening to me...I just needed to vent.

A few slices of watermelon a week is all right but I can't imagine a creature on earth that could eat watermelon more nosily than Koreans. Oh well, it's not like I'm going to shell out W15,000 myself so that I can eat it in peace and quiet at home.

I wish my employer would bring in watermelon! At 15,000 a pop I can understand why.....

.......oh, and UB, you still haven't got the gist of this board yet, have you? Have a good hard think.

Nor of humour. Adding a little, "By the way, I'm being sarcastic" (ala homer simpson) ruins the effect of sarcasm completely.

I know that...but this is Dave's where you have to add disclaimers or no one gets it...as ironically illustrated in this thread.

I'm in the same position you are! Well, except without all the anger/bitterness you seem to have.

My coworkers are always giving me food, from watermelons (which I hate) to random Korean foods. Yesterday, a coworker stuffed 7 tomatoes into my briefcase, hahaha.

I would really like to deny this food, but I have a sneaking suspicion that my principal thinks I don't eat. The first day of school, I was nervous, so i didn't eat, and I made the mistake of telling him that. From that day on, one of the questions he always asks me is, "Did you eat this morning? Not just coffee!"

Blah. I eat their stuff and take it to be polite, but they'll probably get over all of this very soon.

Watermelon....yum. I've done nothing but eat watermelon....sweet, over priced watermelon. I will continue to eat as much watermelon as possible till I'm dragged kicking and screaming back to the cold frosty plains from which I came.

And the defense rests, Mr. flakfizer.

As for kabrams please see the last sentence in the OP.

Cool

But I always love the "it's sarcastic/humor/black comedy" defense! And isn't bitterness/anger part of the whole sardonic attitude?

Because its awesome.
And pretty cheap right now.

For anyone paying 15,000 for a watermelon, take a walk.. you can one that is more than enough for a few days for 5000.

I'm a watermelon snob, or so I'm told... I love watermelon, hate the seeds... I think spitting them out is disgusting... The is of course seedless watermelon, which are almost impossible to find here.

The thing is seedless watermelons were developed by a Korean... Why in the world can't I buy them?!?!?!?!?!
