2 girls, 1 cup. In my entire life, the only video I couldn't watch the whole way through.

The Exorcist always had a super weird vibe to it.

Nothing is really scary.
Just some books maybe, but they're not intended to scare.

The Descent COULD be scary if you're claustrophobic.

The Descent is very scary. And I'm not expecially claustrophobic. The Exorcist is pretty scary, too.

When I was a kid, I was sitting in front of the TV, maybe a foot away, clicking through the channels (before remotes), and I clicked on one channel just as some guy stepped up behind a woman and cut into her eye with a razor. I woke up to that for quite a while.

My roomie at college had to puke when he saw it. I managed to suffer through it.

The worst video I have seen is where a guy squats his butt over a drinking glass, proceeds to sit on it, and the glass exploded in his anus and starts to bleed. This is happening and he doesn't make a peep. He picks the glass shards out too. Crying or Very sad

Yeah, I saw that too. Man, that guy had some nerves to be able to do that.

Hey, I'd better not say much more. Got a pretty stiff warning recently about being too explicit....

Is that the video series from years and years ago that shows crazy stuff like actual footage of people dying in increasingly gruesome ways?

I don't know how old it is. Not so old I would guess. It's fiction. It was on a TV channel, "Showtime." It's just horror, psychological and otherwise, insanity, torture, cannibalism, all that good stuff.

Watch the Coffin Joe movies

Having seen At Midnight I'll Take Your Soul, I really don't fancy seeing more.

Grossly misogynistic.

You haven't witnessed misogyny until you've read American Psycho.

Monsters and psycho killers lurking about don't really scare me. To me, it's the stories that are true (The Elephant Man) or could be true (Johnny Got his Gun) that really creep me out.

Agreed. Realistic or based on real events is creepier to me usually. Zombies don't cut it, but some insane killer might since we know they exist.

If I had to name movies where I physically felt 'scared' it would have to be Alien and Jaws. However those were mostly because of my age at the time.

I haven't watched a movie in years that actually 'scared' me. Nowadays, they seem to depend even more on scenes that involve peoples fears - such as dentists, needles etc ... and generally when you do get one of those 'jump' moments, it's because the orchestra suddenly started playing from out of nowhere - rather than the fact someone jumped out from behind a door.

From this thread though - I downloaded Requiem for a Dream and OldBoys. Requiem for a Dream wasnt the slightest bit scary, nor disturbing even ... but the poor ol lady tripping on diet pills - that was a twist I wasnt expecting so much.
OldBoys - Korean with English Subtitles - LOVED it .. great movie, kept me guessing, parts of the 'puzzle' were nicely fitting together without being able to guess the ending. And the scene with the teeth ... YUCK!

I'm still waiting on Jenifer and Imprint to download - so I look forward to finding a 'scare' in one of them!

Good point. Sometimes it's just the music, or at least partially the music. That deep neurological thing that hits us all more than a scene. Good scary scenes tend to be coupled with some memorable musical sounds.

above poster (can we say AP) ya mentioned "jenifer" (correct spelling btw)..not that big a deal but I guess I'm not a horror fan really, but if ya can get youku it is there, episode four maybe.

and guess what it may have been the music as much as the scenes that hit me when sleep time came around...lalalalalallalala
===========================================

Side note:

Personally I think it may be unwise to seek out horror or thriller movies. You build the acceptance and diminish the shock. Desensitized then, only hardcore novelty perhaps shocks you...you are climbing a strange ladder there, horror and shock fans...do you then feel cool or something? I can watch anything and feel nothing? silly...some stuff is meant to shock to us, but if your interest is in this style of stuff, no doubt you will be harder to please and may just find amusing what freaks most people out. Bonus points for you then I guess, the not so easily troubled.

^^ What's the deal with Jenifer? What was scary about it? I didn't download it yet. A little scared...

I looked it up and saw the picture of her face, which really disturbed me. However, I don't do well with disfigured or contorted faces in horror movies. I have nightmares for weeks. Sad
