|
|
Okay...I hope to be leaving here in about 8 months after finishing 6 months of my new contract.
And the questions is how to get all of my money out of here, even after I am gone.
National pension, there is a good thread here about this, and can get a new bank account set up in New Zealand, so transfer can be sent there.
When I cancel my visa card with KB, I can get my 1 mil won deposit back then, and it is immediate.
SKT phone have to can cancel it to get my 200,000 deposit back from them. But, how do you do this and how long to get the money back?
I have a foreign currency savings account here with KB in Canadian funds. I really do not want to have to pull this out into Korean won, and then send to New Zealand dollars. Is there a way to have it sent and used to pay my tuition without having to go to won?
We get paid on the 25th each month, and planning on being a little late at school, about March 3rd. Of course will clean out my accounts, but will I be forced to leave money in? And, what about my few days left of pay, will the school send to my new account in New Zealand?
I of course pay, all of my bills both through my bank (phone, TV, internet, and cellphone), and directly apartment (electrical, garbage, etc) and gas.
But will the bank try and keep my money after I leave, I mean to pay any bills? And would they send the remainder to me? I think I was reading about a couple of years ago that the banks here deliberately keep the money claiming that the foreign account holders do not claim their money, even though the laws are set up so that we have to do so within Korea. True, and if so what a rip off. Any way around this?
If there is anything else I should keep track of let me know.
Thanks |

Get a departure extension about a week before your contract ends. This is a 30-day extension that will allow you to tie up loose ends, get paid, and what-not. You can leave anytime within the 30 days, and the extension is free. You'll need to provide your ARC, a plane ticket (make sure it's refundable/changeable), and your passport.
The people at the phone company can tell you about the deposit refund. Sounds like you'll be going there with about two weeks to go and cutting off service with the deposit being put in your Korean bank account in your last week.
KEB and other banks offer accounts you can set up for leaving funds in Korea. These come with ATM cards if you want. This account can be your pension-refund target account, assuming you will get a refund. |
