I have around a month of vacation and I'm considering one of the South American countries. I really fancy Brazil but was wondering how the cost of travel there compares to Venezuela, Argentina, Colombia and Ecuador.
I don't stay in expensive hotels and don't mind using local transport to get around.
Cheers in advance for any info. |

I'm envious of your potential trip to Brazil.
However, figuring that airfare from Korea to Brazil is going to be staggering expensive, far beyond the costs of actually being in any one of the countries for a month; I personally think the day-to-day cost in wherever you choose is fairly irrelevant comparitively.
I spent 10 months in South America, but it was 10 years ago. I spent 6 months in Brazil, 1 month in Venezuela, 1 month in Ecuador, and one week in Argentina (of the places you mentioned) and I bypassed Colombia - which was rather unfortunate, as it seems it would have been the most Brazil-like equivalent.
Anyways, to me, Brazil is the #1 place to spend time in without any close 2nd equivalent. It simply IS the place to experience.
Of the Spanish speaking countries in South America, personally I think I enjoyed Ecuador far more than Argentina or Venezuela. Ecuador is a microcosm of the continent with high mountains, Amazon jungle, and Pacific coastline with beaches. Still though, I'd rather spend a week in Brazil anyday than a month in Ecuador. Not that Ecuador is bad, as it isn't, it's just that Brazil is SO much better on every level than all of the Spanish-speaking countries I went to combined.
I should stress again that I missed Colombia, and I would have loved to have spent time in Cartagena, Santa Marta, Cali, etc. Mostly because it seems like the nearest Brazil experience I could get in South America without being back in Brazil. |

Few people would have the $$$ to pull it off.
We're talking somewhere in the ballpark of 2.5 million won return for something like Incheon - Dubai - Sao Paulo on Emirates.
Going via N America or Europe would be even higher.
There is no cheap way to do it. |

I should have mentioned before. My contract is up at the start of next month so I'll be going home for a week and then flying from the UK. I found a few flights for around 1.55million won round trip to Rio de Janiero. Also found a return flight to Caracas for 1.3million.
I was wondering what the cost of budget accomodation, beers, food, in-country travel would be like compared to somewhere like Thailand or The Philippines. |

Just FYI, flights from ICN to Rio on kayak.com are around $1250 (1.5 million) return. |
