SEOUL, South Korea North Korea condemned a recent U.S. pledge to provide nuclear defense of South Korea, saying Thursday that the move boosts its justification to have atomic bombs and invites a potential "fire shower of nuclear retaliation."

The commentary in Pyongyang's main Rodong Sinmun newspaper was the North's latest reaction to last week's summit between President Barack Obama and South Korean President Lee Myung-bak. The allies issued a joint statement committing the U.S. to defend the South with nuclear weapons.

It also came as an American destroyer trailed a North Korean ship suspected of shipping weapons in violation of a U.N. resolution punishing Pyongyang's May 25 nuclear test, and as anticipation mounted that the North might test-fire short- or mid-range missiles in the coming days.

The North's newspaper claimed that the "nuclear umbrella" commitment made it more likely for the U.S. to mount a nuclear attack on the communist North, and only "provides us with a stronger justification to have nuclear deterrent."

It also amounts to "asking for the calamitous situation of having a fire shower of nuclear retaliation all over South Korea" in case of a conflict, the paper said.

Just what do they got up their sleeve they're not telling any one about to support such lofty threats as destroying America and South Korea should anyone intercept their ship in the Pacific they're using to intimidate Hawaii?

It's theoretically true that a tiny country can destroy the entire Earth if it has the hardware and the guts, but lets hope that's not the case. Let's hope they're full of hot air and nothing more. These are changing times and it's possible they've secretly built up arms over the years and only recently feeling strong and confident enough to get windy with the world as it's well known they made a lot of money off of conventional arms manufacturing over the years. You know the regime got money if they frivolously buy 7000 Benz's for Kim Jeong Il and $700,000 a year on Hennesy cognac for him and his chronies.

I'm not worried that they will do anything to the US. They will not be able to really f with them. I'm sorry. They would get blasted so deep into the earth, it would not even be funny.

However, I am scared of their chemical weapons. They could really f up South Korea and its people. They are one of the world leaders in chemical weapons (like nerve agents and gases) that would kill everyone in South Korea in a day (if they wanted).

I think that if NK starts war w/ the US, that the only noise they will bring will be to kill the South Koreans. Then they will all be wiped away. Maybe they could nuke Hawaii or something. Maybe they could pose a threat with all of the NK's currently on US soil. They would not ruin the entire US, though. The US would easily ruin the entire NK.

You have to have a mind to begin with before you can possibly lose it.

This is my biggest reservation in coming to SK. I know that NK likes to talk a lot and never backs anything up, but I certainly don't want to be there on the day when they finally do something, if they ever do.

Or you can just hope speaking English to the Norks evokes the same response as their SK counterparts.

"Hi, could you help me?!"

*an entire Nork battalion freezes from fear of speaking engrishee*

I'd like to get my hands on a firearm of some sort as well. I got a K-Bar, set of brass knuckes and an aluminum baseball bat. I guess if I was fighting zombies...I'd be allright

Well the only guys I've seen w/ guns around here were cops. They look so dumb, too. Walking around with this gun. They are so out of shape and so dumb. Are THEY the ones who will protect us?

I need to get some steel.
