Perhaps that's a piece of advice the whiners on this forum can take, because it seems anytime someone has something GOOD to say about Korea, they pounce all over it.

You know, I was just reading this from a NET living in Japan:

http://www.jbox.com/jlistmail_pg.html

"I do try to avoid foreigners from English-speaking countries who for some reason decide to be as negative as they can be about the country, even while they live and work here through the hospitality of their Japanese hosts. Some foreigners would choose to pick up on any slight they imagine has been done to them, despite the fact that the vast majority of the "discrimination" they are likely to encounter in Japan is actually positive in nature, like Japanese people giving them gifts or $50-an-hour teaching jobs, or girls writing their phone numbers on chopstick wrappers. No matter what these pessimistic gaijin do, they can't get away from a cycle of negativity, especially if they encapsulate themselves inside a bubble with other negative foreigners, which sometimes happens with JET teachers if they're not careful."

This pretty much describes 95% of the losers complaining about Korea as well.

Good for you man.

I've always believed that Asia was the new land of opportunity.

Learning Korean is prolly one of the best things a person who plans on being here more than 2 years can do. It takes a lot of work, so well done.

Where did you meet your girlfriend? I'm happy that you've found a keeper. I've been dating girls here for a while from the street, clubs, subways, and even girls who are sales executives, and haven't found any keepers yet.

Very inspiring...

Who is this guy who, apparently, lives in the US and spends way too much time on this board complaining about posters? Is there really a difference?

And what happened to our charismatic and gleeful OP? He appears to have disappeared. Or is he lurking and laughing at all us dupes?

I think you mean 잘 해

You should be using 존대말 (at the very least) as you aren't well acquainted with everyone here, defacto as you are introducing yourself.

Something like this would be much more appropriate:

저는 한국말을 할수 있어요.

저는 한국말을 할 줄 알아요.

I have omitted the adverb '잘' because it is apparent that you cannot speak 'well' therefore there is no need for an adverb in this instance.

And referring to an earlier example in another thread I think you mean 빼 'without'.

Two examples of your wonderful Korean, two glaring errors.

As of next month, I will have been living in Korea for three years, and I must say that Korea is hyper slammin'! Every year, my life here just keeps getting better and better.

Part of this is because my 한국말 is 진짜잘해. That I speak and read Korean has made my life here so much better.

I have a beautiful and intelligent Korean girlfriend (she lived in London, England, for five years, which is where she earned her master's degree) whom I've been dating for two years. In addition to her, I have friends from all over the world. All of them have lived here for many years and speak Korean very well (some of them are fluent), so we always have a great time when we go out.

My jobs just keep getting better and better. Three years ago, I worked at a TOEFL hagwon making decent money. Last year, I worked at the top-ranked foreign language high school in the country. This year I write textbooks for the Korean Army. Between my good salary (3.5 million a month with free housing), the textbooks I'm writing for a major publishing company (I'm getting 10 million won for each book, and I'm writing five of them this year alone), and the other work I do on the side, I'll earn nearly nine-figures this year.

Thanks to my Korean skills and my hard work, I'll have a ton of money saved up by the end of this year. I'm going to use some of that money to get a D-8 visa and open a business (thank you Seoul Global Center for all the free classes you have about doing this). On top of this, I already have a great textbook writing gig lined up for next year (starting pay is 4.5 million a month, with the top earners bringing home more than 6 million a month) and more textbook projects with the publisher I'm working for this year. There's no end in sight for how much success I can have here.

Thank you, Korea, for being a rich-but-still-growing country that has nearly infinite possibilities for the person who takes the time to learn Korean and develop themselves both personally and professionally. I came here a naive 22-year-old fresh out of college, and I'll end up being a semi-retired 30-year-old in just a few more years.

With the exception of the ESL connexion, the fresh-out-of-college bit, and the ghetto-talk (slammin'? what does it mean?), this Opening Post could have been written by me in the mid-1990s. Right down to the UK-educated Korean gf.

Now, while I agree with everyone that it was just horrid of you to post this, I must confess the asshat in me was quite pleased.

No need. You see, this entire board became one big unrelenting Brag Forum on 25 May 2004.

Oh how I crave to have my pic-posting priviledges back for just one day. POW!

JG - who is that in your avatar, I've always been curious....

It's Peter Lorre (contemplating a crime?).

Slammin', that word makes me laugh. It's like this decade's 'rad'.

Wow, so many responses. I haven't had time to look at this thread because I have been out enjoying Korea Slammin' (Thanks goes out to my Korean-speaking buddy who got the two of us secret shopper jobs for Lotte Hotels. An all-expenses-paid weekend trip to Busan including a 5-star hotel room and gourmet meals truly is slammin').

To those of you who have had positive things to say, I say this: You are slammin'. To those of you who have had negative things to say, I say this: Try to become slammin'.
