Well, think about it. Who doesn't? Apparently we are all nuts. I'm crazy and most people I know are too. Some drinks and a friend to talk to help, but is it enough? Most people are living like the next high building is a temptation. Haven't you been tempted? If not maybe you are are weird, and belong to the minority.
Just saying. Odd how we're all nuts. Shrinks need shrinks.
Am I living in a huge psych ward, or is it just me? (oh, it's just me haha good one) |

Are you American? Just wondering as it's my impression Americans hit the couch when the slightest little abnormality strikes them. Maybe I just have seen too much TV and heard "I need to see my therapist" too many times.
What is normal though? I haven't barked like a dog, or dropped my pants in general public yet, so I think I'm doing OK.
Reading some of the comments on this website though makes me feel a lot more normal. Reading how people post here to complain how someone got their shoes dirty, or how that ajosshi was looking at them funny on the train makes me feel so much better about myself. Thank you Dave's, my online and free therapy session. |

It's not me, it's the rest of the herd that's insane.
Seriously though, pretty much everybody that knows me here thinks I'm a little off the wall.
I like it that way.
I have also spent time on three occasions yapping to shrinks when life got to confusing for me to figure it out alone.
They helped. Thank you EAP.
I worry about the ones who claim they have it all together when they really don't. And that is most of them. |

I could definitely use many trips to the couch doctor, but I will not do it. We are all "bent" in some way, it's called originality. |

I think Dr. Johnny Fever said it best for those who know or remember WKRP
"When the whole world is out to get you being paranoid is smart." |

I hope someday phsychology is more widely accepted. consoueling can haave vast benefits for anyone with any sort of emotional or unresolved issues.
Everyoen has their demons lurking in the crevices of their unconciouss.
BTW. Phsychiatry is drug related, phsychology is not, but I assumed by the OP's post he meant phsychology. |

The thing is often the quacks are worse off than you.
Ever since an ex girlfrind went to a 'color therapist' - yeah, use sine waves that have certain sound frequencies rubbing against your skin and get instant life altering realizations, ( ) then coming back and saying how she was abused as a child and then taking out a protection order against her father - who gave her the typical rich kid trappings all her life - what's more I grew up around this girl since I was seven and I know her family very well, so it all made me feel sick. She had no more abuse than any normal childhood.
I never trust a counsellor from that day on - I'll take my own advice as I know myself and my failings better than anyone.
In fact, in the Bible it says be wary of them. |

That is not quite the distinction although it is true that psychologists cannot prescribe medication. Psychiatrists can, although ideally a non-pharmacological intervention should first be attempted if possible.
A first consult for mental distress of any sort is preferable with a psychiatrist. Sometimes problems such depression or psychosis can have an organic basis and only the psychiatrist is medically trained to properly evaluate that. If it does, treatment of the underlying condition generally alleviates the psychological problem as well.
If ruled out, he may then refer the patient for a course of psychotherapy which might be with a psychiatrist (becoming less common and is generally more expensive) or a clinical psychologist or social worker or other psychotherapist.
Even without "unresolved" issues, it can be of great value to have sessions with a skilled, nonjudgmental therapist. |
