I had some shirts made last year in Itaewon and decided to have some more made this summer. Out of curiosity, who have you used before? Who would you recommend? I was satisfied with the shirts I got but if people have some places they prefer and some reasons why, I'd love to hear them. |

I would recommend Goshe in Apgujeong.
The shirts start at w69,000 for Korean fabric and go up to about w180,000 (IIRC) for the high end Italian cloth.
The guys working there speak good English and ask you quite a few questions about how you want the shirt styled but most importantly they know their stuff.
The shirts took about 3days to be made and the quality is great.
It's difficult to give exact directions but it's near Mafia Bar (closer to Rodeo than Apgu Stn).
Also, they have pics of lots of Korean stars in their shirts so it obviously has a good rep with the locals. |

Fashion Custom Tailor in Itaewon made over 20 dress shirts for me, at 45,000 won each, some short sleeved, a couple not to be tucked in but most standard dress shirts in various materials and weights, the cotton ones I'm appreciating the most. Their selection isn't great for shirts but they make my suits so I get all at the same place. Their biggest upside is the ATTENTIVE service, not talking about the English savvy sales pitch by the old guy who's been doing it forever, but the detail and care in fitting, in double checking, in insisting they get it right, to the point of adding buttons or re-adjusting where needed. Every shirt fits wonderfully. I'm a happy customer. I'll be going back there once again before the summer is out, not far from the Hamilton Hotel on the same side of the street. |

I bought some shirts made by Hamilton shirts in Itaewon. The fitting was well done and the price was affordable. I haven't bought any from them recently though. With summer here, I prefer the shirts I bought in Bali for a few dollars. Ready to wear and ultra thin fabric for those humid days. Not necessarily appropriate for most schools though.
An American officer told me that most shirts fitted by stores in Itaewon are sent to Hamilton. Can't say whether this is true. |

Just a note about Goshe (고셰)...
I went there yesterday. excellent quality stuff, nice selection of fabrics, English ability was great, BUT...
the guy who i presume manages the shop has to be one of the bigger condescending douchebags i've met in Korea. I felt as though he was treating me like a kid.
like most of his customers, i didn't major in fashion. moreover, it was my first time to have a shirt tailor-made. yet he seemed impatient when i asked him to clarify what the difference between "standard process" and "premium process" were (the difference being higher quality stitching, and I guess probably other stuff that he didn't bother to explain to me). there were a lot of other subtle nudges at my ego (i'm not being an over-sensitive foreigner; my korean friend who accompanied me noticed the same thing).
granted, it is Apgujeong, i'm sure he gets a lot of high rollers coming in, and i'm just a lowly english teacher -- i can't expect him to hold my hand. although despite the excellent quality of shirts, the horrid consideration for the customer will keep me from going to get any more shirts made. |

I've had several shirts made at Han's Tailor in Itaewon. Very professional and good fit. For full cotton, the price ranges from 45,000 to 60,000 won. I also had a suit made there. The fabric was cut and fitted on site, and the end result was quite impressive. I would highly recommend them. |

How much did that suit cost if you don't mind me asking? |

i use the guys at Fashion Custom Tailor, same side as Hamilton hotel.
really, i dont think there is much difference between the guys in itaewon. they all use mostly the same material and i know a few of them even use the same seamstress (sewing machien operator)
i usually get silk, as its light weight so its cooler in the summer, and looks nice with slacks and a tie or i can dress it down with jeans and fli fops (as i do most of the time)
i like to bring in a picture from a designer like Calvin Klein and i have them mock it completely. they even have some similar fabric. they mock the calvin klein shirts to the T. u cant tell i got them tailored for 30,000 and not paid 65 for off the rack. im thinking of seeing if they can copy calvin klein shorts too, not sure if they have the material though... |

The suits start at 450,000 but it depends on the wool. The one I had made used some nicer imported material from Australia for 550,000. I asked for functional button holes on the sleeves, and some other specific items. They did a fine job, and will make it to what ever style you like. It helps if you go in with pictures of the style you are interested in to really help with getting your ideas across. |
