I've lived in Korea for over three years now and I love Kimchi. I find it quite tasty, and I use it a lot in cooking because I'm both cheap and lazy. I find it works as both a seasoning and a vegetable, so it works pretty well in eggs, any fried dish, or sandwiches.

Anyways, after over three years, I still haven't adjusted to it physically. I find that when I eat more than a couple of bites of it, I become a little too regular, and I will find myself rushing to the bathroom.

Anyone else get this problem? If so, what do you do?

PS: I'm seeking real advice, not apple vinegar, yoga, gluten or homeopathy.

It might be that you lack an enzyme to break it down effectively.

I do like to eat kimchi from time to time, but like my cheese, I prefer them older then younger.

I cannot eat bucket loads either, or my stomach starts cramping, I went to a doctor to see if something was wrong with my stomach, but it was in pristine condition. (The overload of acid might reveal cancer and ulcers by inducing a lot of pain in your abdomen)

Just eat them in proper proportions.

A daily yogurt helps me a great deal.

my body loves korean food, not a bit of indigestion with any of it

except those not-really-korean-anyways late night deep fried streetside stall donuts after a night of drinking: nasty nasty greasy donuts (twice ate and twice got a gutache, no more ever for me)

but there's no way i'd have any gimchi in my place: more than enough of that stuff consumed when i eat out in korean restaurants, a few times a week

Indigestion is the opposite of my problem. Kimchi is like exlax for me. I'll give the yogurt a shot.

yoghurt might not be the solution you're looking for here.

kimchi, being fermented food, is full of good belly-bacteria. yoghurt, to my knowledge, has the same stuff. upping your intake of leafy greens might help though? if you're talking about using kimchi as the 'vegetable' in your meal, likely you're not getting nearly enough veg. dark leafy greens (raw or steamed) are preferable, as well as local and in season right now, which makes 'em extra healthy.
