| I was wanting to know how ago about getting refills of medications in korea? I have a presciption for an anxiety related med and need to know if I should be asking my DR in the states for a 6month-year supply or can I just see a korean doctor and have my prescriptiom honored like that. |

You will not easily be able to get a C4 Benzo (I assume you mean Xanax) here in Korea. If you do, it will often be half the oral maintenance dose. The doctor will insist he's correct and not even open his Merck manual to check, so you're SOL. |

thanks straphanger....the med in question is actually Kalonpin whick is very similiar to xanax. I understand that Korea has a much different view on psycotrophic meds than here in the states so your saying the doctor in Korea would most likely cut my dosage in 1/2. I take the loweest dosage avalible anyway so that probably wouldnt be that big of deal for me. Also wanting to know is there any hassle with bringing abenzo medication through customs? And will my employer or school be notified that I am prescribed such a medication? I have been tols that schools are not to crazy about teachers that take this kind of med. It seems to be much different in Korea as far as these meds go. I have taught in the states for several years and have met several other teachers here that take xanax, kalonpin or similiar benzo's. I'm just a bit apprehensive because I don't want this to cause me any problems in Korea and I'm considering not taking it at all with me for fear it may be a problem.

No problems with customs, as long as it's in a prescription bottle nobody will ask any questions. Remember, you're not married to the doctor you start with, so keep asking around if you have problems.

This is rubbish. Ignore it.
Getting anti anxiety meds in Korea (I've had XANAX and BUSPAR combined for sleeping probs and once put on XANAX for panic attacks - both times in Korea) is as easy as getting candy from a damned sweet shop.
I personally think they hand them out way too easily and should first try to get the patient to try less potent alternatives or lower doses... but that's just my opinion.
Don't worry, no need for 6 month prescription. |

I appreciate the information greatly..so no worrries..and when i go though customs as I plan on bringing my meds with me it should be no big deal. Do i need ti inform customs that I am bringing my prescrptions with me or just wait and see if they ask...

I have been to about 20 countries. I had to grin here. How would you go about "informing customs"? |

Don't worry about customs. If you need refills go to an international clinic whose doctors can speak English. If you have health insurance in your home country I would suggest getting the largest supply of your medication as possible before coming to Korea. Although anxiety medication is available in Korea, the doctors might be a little more hesitant to prescribe it than in your home country.
I needed a refill for my anxiety prescription and I went to a local health clinic. The doctor started asking me personal question such as where I work and if I was messed up in the head... I got the prescription nevertheless but I was worried about the doctor/patient confidentiality. |
