I'm starting to realize that having a small bag would be helpful for carrying odds and ends (camera, cigarettes, sunglasses, umbrella, etc.)
Any suggestions? I am not looking for a backpack (too big and casual) nor a korean style man-purse. |

get a satchel/messenger bag.
if its manly enough for WWI soldiers, Jim from The Office and Indiana Jones, it will do for us.
Or, if you want to go to the other end of the spectrum, go for the fanny pack.
But yes, stay far away from the purses. |

whats wrong with a man purse? not that id ever get one, but ur in korea. i see plenty of guys carrying them around.
i dont know what else you would call a small bag used for carrying stuff. if that doesnt work maybe u can just use a grocery bag.
serious answer: http://www.jackspade.com/shop/home.php?cat=305 get a smaller messenger bag. im sure most department stores carry something like this. and i know for sure that the bookstore in kangnam sells these, not the same brand but style |

Can't argue with that. The only problem with a gym bag, is the inconvience of carrying it around. I am assuming you want a small bag that attaches to you some how like the infamous 'F** Bag' of the late 80's. There seems to be no middle ground beween these two options other than the "MURSE". |

My strategy is just to carry less on me and put stuff in my pockets. Usually I just slip a my bank card in my pocket, with maybe a couple 10,000w bills. My phone has the T-Money adapter and my key attached to it, in my other pocket. My phone is also fine for any urgent pictures--I generally don't do photography on the way to work. I use the memo function on my phone instead of bringing a planner or separate to-do list.
If you need to carry more cards, you can get one of those money clip style wallets, which is basically a money clip but you can cram a couple of cards into an extra card slot.
I see no reason for sunglasses if you're getting enough Vitamin A. Plus you can put them on your head or clip them to your shirt pocket if you must have them.
If you are small (about the size of the average Korean woman) then one of those mini umbrellas would fit in a messenger bag. Otherwise, you will need a larger umbrella that will probably not fit in one of those anyway.
Try it and you might find it freeing to go all day with your hands free. |

plastic grocery bags are the OG man bag. they may not be fashionable (yet!) but the price is right and you can stuff them in your pocket when they're empty (you DO have pockets, don't you?) instead of having to carry around some empty man purse all day.
i usually carry all of my stuff, including my umbrella (tip: get a small one) in my pockets (another tip: use the handy plastic bag when it's wet), leaving my hands free for high fiving fellow waygooks, blocking ajummas, and holding on for dear life on the bus. |

it's very convenient
go to one of the North Face hiking clothes stores and pick up a small gym bag with shoulder strap
it could be worn with a business suit or when biking on sunday without looking like a girly man, though if you wanna go native and copy the Korean men's metrosexual look then by all means... |

Whatever happened to the traditional briefcase? Call me old fashioned if you must. At least you'll look straight and not like a homeless person either. |

One of the stranger sentences I've read on Dave's.......
...........I got a really nice Delsey brown leather shoulder-strap bag on the Itaewon main strip. I was actually bought it as a present. 210,000won. Use it every day. Indispensable. Lots of choices there in Itaewon. |

My cursor was hovering over "post reply" when I glanced up and saw that you had beaten me to it. Exactly.
I want to see more of you carrying briefcases. Everywhere. God created soft-shelled bags for women & Korean flower-men, not for you. You'll never be taken entirely seriously by those who matter without one, or at least something along these lines. A good fedora or homburg wouldn't hurt, either. |

Are you by chance one of the 75 year old businessmen in fedoras who can barely stand up under their own power that I see in Jongno? |

Give me another 35 years and we'll see.
At this point, all you'll see of me in Jongo is a blur of black metal and a gust of exhaust. |

the only bag you'll ever see me wearing, I mean carrying is a gym bag and that means an American style one, the Korean one was offered at my gym for paying months in advance looks way too girlie for me so I refused.
another gym bag I saw at a store looked ok, but had a a little house drawn on it, with the heading "Puppy House" on it.
No thanks.
I was given a Korean book bag that was being handed out at my school by some college reps/recruiters. I took one look at it and said no, no one will ever see me with anything that looks like that.
recently while looking for some cheapie plastic cabinets it took me a long time to find something in a basic color, that was bereft of teddy bears, bunny rabbits, puppies, what have you.
this has to be the most fairy-fied environment I have ever seen in my life. Nothing else even comes remotely close.
getting back to topic - if you're a man, you're not supposed to be carrying anything that needs to be bagged unless it's a special occassion (e.g. business meeting, briefacse)
that's one the basic joys of being a man. Everything you need fits into your pockets. |
