|
|
I just got off the phone with the supervisor of EPIK NETs. I was asking why I will not get a letter of release and he told me it was because it is against policy to give a NET a letter of release if they haven't completed the contract. I gave 60 days notice which is 30 more than necessary...isn't that completing my contract, or my obligations to the contract?
I posted something yesterday about how they were saying it was because of our housing situation because my wife is an EPIK teacher as well. Last night I spoke to my landlord and he said that they have only paid up to August...which is when I'll be leaving....so I recontracted with him personally...so housing is not the reason...neither is the furniture
If I take my story to immigration will they sway on the matter?
Again, I am leaving one month before my contract is to finish...I'm leaving in the summer...and i gave 60 days notice...
I can go to my principal but that means he will be crossing the NET supervisor and the person who would translate for me is friends (old school buddies) with the super and he knows whats going on...all the other english teachers bedn to this guys will and ask his permission before doing anything for me...
Any other options? Part of me wants to get the university involved but I dont want to scare them away either and they wind up hiring someone without the baggage... |

Go to immigration and demand an exit order. This is a paper that they staple in your passport. You get I think 30 days to leave the country. Hand in your arc on the way out and get yourself a new visa. This overrides the need for a LoR. |

I've heard this was SMOE's policy but not EPIK's. Who's listed on the front of your ARC as your sponsor? |

Why would you leave just one month before your contract finishes. Surely nothing is so bad that you're willing to forgo sal/bonus/flight benefits (for the sake of 30 days????)
Just curious. |

Well done that man. "Congratulations" on your new baby.
I'd be trying to defer for a month, though. It's only 30 days. Surely your new Korean employer would be susceptible to the, "I'm now a stable and reliable family man" line.
You'll find the bonus money will come in real handy down the line. I know. I've been there. |

But why wouldnt they just want to find another teacher that they dont have to wait a month for?
The uni semester is 17 weeks and id miss 6 or 7 or 8?
I'm trying to not let them know yet |

Because you're now a family man. And in a job market that's characterised by exploiting transient temporary contract workers - being a stable family man does count for something. Any reasonable Korean employer should be able to see that. |

Key word here though being "reasonable". |

When my 30 days or 60 days are up doesnt the EPIK cancel my visa? Wouldnt this allow me to get another visa with another school?
I cant imagine immigration wants people walking around with E2 visas and not employed by their sponser....that wouldnt make sense |
