I met with a Korean lady yesterday, who is desperately seeking a native speaker for her school in Russia.
I don't know all the details as far as salary, etc. I do know that the motivation of the school is to share the Gospel with the children and their families. So, obviously, they are looking for a Christian.
While I don't know this lady, one of my best Korean friends will be teaching English there in August and is confident of the reputation of the school.
So, if you're interested or know of anyone who might be interested in this opportunity, pm me.
Peace! |

Sounds like one of those deals where you'd be awakened at 3am for prayer and then peel potatoes for the same cold potato soup you eat every morning in the kerosene lit hut with a thick wooden table. Then you would have to teach directly from the Bible with literalist interpretations. |

Russian ESL is a pretty murky dark underworld to begin with.
Add the religionist element and you are really getting yourself into some difficult situation. |

It could be worthy of your favorite writer, the late great Solzhineitsyn. |

My friend tried to tempt me to go with her by mentioning the hot Russian women also!
But, I've got obligations and commitments here in Korea that prevent me from chasing such a dream.
But, for someone who doesn't have any commitments, you never know.... |

No offense to your friend, OP, but religion base hagwons in Korea are notorious for treating their native English teachers badly, and there's no reason to think one run by a Korean in Russia would be any better |

I just re-read your post...
Anyone who goes to a school (christain or not) and doesn't know the details about the school is an idiot. Also when you believe Korean confidence rather than fact you need your head checked... |

Mysterious Christian hagwon run by a Korean somewhere in Russia? How fast can I sign the contract? Is it possible to sign for more than one year at a time? |

Solzhenitsyn and I are polar opposities, politically speaking, yes. And I have extremely negative assessment of him.

That's the thing. Even Russian immi officials will not know what visa type you are supposed to have and a lot of complicated bribes are needed just to stay in country. People do it, but many (most) get badly burned. Ever heard of "English First" - google it and that will temper your enthusiasm. |

I agree about this is a suspicious offer. I was just trying to help out my friend and her future boss in Russia, who seems so desperate to find a native-speaker.
Why else would I post this on Dave's if it wasn't a desperate situation? I told them to check out some of the bigger English speaking churches.
Who knows, maybe someone's big desire is to go to Russia (and along with that find a nice Russian babe?). You never know... |
