i have to teach a conversation class for 20 korean english teachers. i've only ever taught children. the class is will be held by the board of education so my reputation is seriously on the line.
any suggestions such as books or games would be greatly appreciated. |

What part of "conversation" don't you understand? (That's not supposed to sound rude, actually).
Get them talking. Bring up some subject. Ask them what they think about it. |

Find a topic
-Give them some short reading material
-Do a 3 level reading guide so they get the article
-Go over their answers as a class
-frame a discussion with target language
-provide questions and get them to write their own too
-put them in groups of 4 and let them at it
-go around the groups making notes eg grammar, pronunciation, etc
-go make to the questions as a class
-don't play ping pong with their questions, deflect them to other groups
-wrap up
Start each session with "Today we will (learning outcome)" and finish by asking what they learnt and field questions.
Rinse and repeat.
Go the pub together at the earliest opportunity |

Hi OP,
Are you teaching them how to conduct a conversation class (i.e. how to teach English) or are you actually teaching them English?
If it's the former, then you can look at a few tips that I wrote; they may give you an idea.
www.ralphsesljunction.com (go to assessments; you can't miss them).
If it's the latter, then I'd recommend moving slightly away from conventional methods of teaching (i.e. using books). Instead, rely on authentic materials to facilitate speaking in the class. Center the class around their responses. Build a conversation from what they say. After all, one of our goals as English instructors is to try and make an unnatural language learning environment as natural and authentic as possible.

Under "Speaking" read the two articles that I have written. They may help you get an idea of how to escape The Book! ... |

good question haha i have no idea yet. i was told that i could do whatever i want. i asked for some examples of what teachers have done in the past. i'll probably receive them last minute.
i'd prefer to set up activities where i give them a topic and they work together and teach themselves.
i'll check out your information. thanks for you help!! |
