The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education is actively beating the bushes for foreign ESL teachers to fill the public schools, but they insist on keeping all the cards. This includes not telling you what kind of a school you will be posted in until you are there (an elementary school, middle school, high school, or teacher training center). To be fair, EPIK has also played this low card in the past, but a surprise is usually less than welcome. The SMOE is also less than up front about the teacher having to provide the deposit on the housing. If surprises are your cup of tea and you don't mind teaching a level other than your first choice, give SMOE a try.

I've never heard of someone having to pay for their own deposit unless they've moved apartments. What do you mean by that?

500k off of your first paycheque to cover your last month's bills...
Not sure what the OP means about them not being upfront about it though, it's in the contract...
