So I would like to work at a summer English camp to make some more money instead of sitting around and doing nothing.
I haven't asked the school, but my coteacher called the district office and they said my contract doesn't allow for it(standard EPIK contract). Anyone else who signed an EPIK contract who got permission to work at a summer English camp?
What should I do? I don't want to waste my vacation sitting around and doing nothing. |

Write up 2 lesson plans. Make one dull and boring, the other fun and exciting. Show the school the plans and say, "If you let me work the summer camp, I can come back and teach fun lessons like this, or if I can't I will be teaching this boring one. Your choice." |

My friend got permission from his school last year no problem. Just approach the principal. |

My guess is they have their own camp in mind and don't want you booked up. Anyway, Busan sucks. |

You're pretty much sol on this one. Try sweet talking with snacks and bows. I wouldn't recommend blackmailing them with your work performance. You should be doing fun and educational lessons, anyway.
If you really want to do it, I would say do it anyway but you would be breaking your contract and visa. You really don't have a leg to stand on I'm afraid. |

I rather work here because I'm going to be here for the vacation anyways. I haven't asked the principals yet actually. my coteacher asked the regional district office(northern Busan) and they didn't know what to say at first then said no later. i will call the busan district office later and ask and ask my principal later.
the problem is most of the good job postings for summer camps require a letter from my school giving permission. I rather work here and no go anywhere far because the whole point of it is to work and save more money. |

Interesting.
I did a summer camp (for extra pay) completely against the wishes of my public school. I'd even say they were furious about it. I was approached by the other school and asked to do it, I agreed. They then contacted my school, and while I'm sure my school would have just said no to me, they couldn't say no to the other school because they would have needed, you know, a reason.
I quit immediately after so there were no real consequences. You're planning on quitting too right? |

This cracks me up. Asking "Why?" is a sure fire way to make a K co-teacher's head explode. Both of mine try to avoid situations where I can ask that question. |
