| Show us, sir, where you get the percentages from that you readily quote. |
You mean this one: "75% of the public is ready for the change, but Obama is still holding off"?
It's been all over the news the last few weeks. You're free to look it up. (Actually, I may have exaggerated. I think the real number is 72%.)
I don't see what label people choose to call themselves (if indeed the 40% is correct) has to do with anything. It's what people want on individual issues that counts and on most issues the majority is rather liberal.
More to the point, I don't see what this has to do with Obama's governing style, which is the topic at hand.

mises, didn't you mean 'pipedreams' instead of 'solutions'?

Pretty vague, Kuros. You can't mean foreign policy since that is working pretty well. |

Obama is failing. I voted for him, but thats all ive got to say. His plans are good but hes failing because hes trying to play the middle, and it isnt working.
None of the great presidents ever became or did great because they played down the middle, but because they knew what they had to do and found ways to make it happen even despite opposition.
Obama vowed to make govnt more transparent. Thats out the window as he has reverted to the state secret/ exctuvie privledge schtick that Bush was on.
He said "No man is above the law" yet didnt do anything to anyone in the Bush admin, even though alot of what they did was clearly illegal.
Obama said his president he modeled after was lincoln, but keep in mind, lincoln although very much a reconilliation minded person between north and south, STILL meted out punishments to southern officials, although light. Jefferson Davis spent 1 yr in prison.
Obama promised to create jobs, and reduce unemployment.. but it hasnt happened
Promised health care freform..it hasnt happened..
He promised rights for homosexuals, ending the militaries DADT policy, but it hasnt happened.
He promised to improv our foreign policy, but it hasnt happened..
All of the first things are not because Obamas plans arent good, but because hes allowing the opposition too much power in striking those plans down. the health care issue, gay rights, jobs, etc...
Hes letting the opposition bog it all down and it isnt working..
on foreign policy I think its because Obama MIGHT Be a little naive.. he makes alot of speeches, but thats all they are is speeches..
Does he believe he can wave a magic wand and make peace?
I hear about talks this talks that, but stop talking and DO.
Obama needs to use the power he has, and the power the dems have right now to get the job done. Not spend so much time trying to satisfy the republicans, because no matter what obama does the next day foxnews will be portraying him as the enemy. |

I don't think that is what is happening.
In the beginning I think he was courting the GOP, but they turned into the Pary of NO, no matter what. It looks to me like he has pulled back and is now only trying to find consensus within the ranks of the Dems, and if anyone in the GOP wants to go along, well, all the better. I think he has succeeded in labelling the Republicans not only as the Party of No, but also as the Party of Limbaugh and they have cooperated by claiming the title of the Party of Sexual Malfeasance. The only reason Fox News is still important is because the main stream media is slow to catch on.
Playing the middle is working. I would rather see more liberal solutions, but no one should be 100% content in a functioning democracy where all sides get some say.

I basically agree with you, but none of the great presidents had a country so divided (except Lincoln). I'm aprehensive about this. It could be that Obama is searching for a solution to the division in the country.

You are right on this point. I also am nervous about this. But this is not a central issue, although it is a very important one.

I agree. However, keep in mind that Lincoln said he'd free none of the slaves, some of the slaves or all of the slaves in order to achieve his ultimate goal. Obama may well be doing the same. I'd personally like to see some kind of commission on torture. It is the moral thing to do. However, maybe Obama is right--move on and 'hope' people forget.
Your other points:
jobs: My god, man! Did you grow up on TV and expect everything to be solved in under 60 minutes? It's only been 5 months.
health care reform: It's happening. It isn't as good as I want, but it is more than the insurance companies want. The sad thing about our system is that everyone gets a say. Especially money.
gays: Again, it's only been 5 months. He's waiting for the generals. It may be a generational thing.
Foreign policy:::: How can you say that? The US is no longer the pariah of the international community. Imagine if McCain had been elected--we could well be locked into a war in Iran and god knows how many other countries by now. The people he listened to only seem to understand 'Bring it on' and 'I surrender'. The world isn't like that.
I'm not always comfortable with what he does, but I'm willing to give him the time to demonstrate the wisdom of his choices. |
