If he were making that, he wouldn't be in a pub. He'd be in on a tropical island.

this is what I love about idiots. You can make a claim and not have to back it up with them.

Turns out most of us do make 80 million won per year. Some guy, also in a pub, explained it like this to me one night.
Take your base pay of say 2.5 million and add your housing of 500. That puts you to 36 million per year. Now think about the taxes you aren't paying at home in the States. He was from the States so we'll use that as an example. He says you easily pay 33 percent of you taxes to the government. So now we must add another 11 million to that 36 million taking us to 47 million.
Now since most places in the states are more you have to add another 500k per month. That takes you to 53 million. etc ect till he cam up with 80 million.
He told me all this with a straight face and was quite serious. I asked him if that was how the hogwan boss sold him the job.
Turns out I make more than 80 million won per year. I'm from Mississippi ya see and people don't much believe in abortions or birth control of any form. So I'd probably have knocked up some chic and have to pay some child support on top of all this. So that put's me up to about 100 million won per year easily.
I'm a rich b@tch!!!

8 million is doable

-base salary 2.5 to 3 million

-3 to 4 hours of privates a day brings you to 8 million (at 50,000 an hour)
you would be working your arse off tho

my base salary is 3.2 (including housing allowance) 4.5 hours per day
I was doing 10 hours of privates a week thats about 2 million a month
so thats 5.2 million a month

lost all my privates this month so back to base salary

i have had friends making 8 million plus but they work for it

kindy classes in the morning or business classes very early in the morning, followed by privates in the evening, working weekends.

8 million a month is easy to do if you don't mind working all the time. And if you have a F visa it is even legal.

This was my old schedule:

Morning bus class 6:30 - 8:30 Mon - Fri 70.000 won hour 2.800.000/mon
Morning Kindy 10:00 - 12:00 Mon - Fri 50.000 hour 2.000.000/mon
Afternoon Company 1 - 6 Mon - Fri 4.000.000 month 4.000.000/mon
Evening privates 8 - 10:00 Mon - Fri 50.000 hour 2.000.000/mon

My actual monthly pay varied a little each month because kindy would cancel for field trips, the moring bus class would all call in hung over, the evening privates would take time off to study for test.

But I averaged about 9.500.000 every month. I lasted three months before I decided that time with my family was more important so now I work much less and have much more fun.

There is a lot more to life than making money.

I met an Aussi once who told me he made the equivalent of USD 250,000/year, the year before, in China. My response was "So why are you teaching in a rural, middle of BFNW K town for W2,300,000/month?"

He shut up. Laughing

Because the part of your soul you have to sell to make that kind of cash isn't worth it. He's probably here for a paid vacation.

lol... it's not just the Koreans that seek to impress when you first meet then. I shall name this behavior as "accomplishment introduction".

The fact that so many are so incredulous about someone making only 8 million a month makes me feel very warm inside.

While this applies to lots of things, if folks bring up the topic of how big theirs is, it prolly isn't actually all that big...this goes for salaries, vacations, and...er...salaries.

Folks that HAVE big ones seldom talk about it -- what's to talk about, after all? 'tis a private matter....

8 million is certainly possible, and might even be legal on an E2 if one does lots of OT -- much easier with illegal privates, or the legal F-visa route...but you need to wonder why someone would bring it up? Did you ASK?
