How does one get tested for Adult ADD and how hard is it to get medication such as Ritalin or Adderral? Do you even need to get tested? What kind of medical specialist would you go to? (Not sure if the procedure is the same as in the States).
Thanks for your responses! |

You could see how many times you can hit the submit button on Dave's....
Actually, Lilly has a drug called Strattera which was really popular. It's available here. Just make sure you confine your questions to general practitioners, not psychiatrists here on the ROK, unless you talk to Dr. Love or one of Linton's men. |

I know the doc at the International Clinic in Itaewon is an ADD specialist.
BTW I tried Strattera. I was completely wired. I wanted to kill myself. It was horrible. It also gave me painful ejaculations (sorry to be graphic). Orgasm was also separate from ejaculation. That's when I stopped taking it. Never again. |

I got tested for ADD in college and ended up on Ritalin for a year or two. Wasn't worth the up's and downs and forced meals to reduce the impact of all that shit in your system.
I honestly found that developing better study/work habits have had more positive effect in my life than the entire period I was on pills. |

Yeah, see that's the thing with people who have real mental problems, in your example, suicidal ideation. Did the drug cause it, or did the drug not treat the underlying problem? That's why you need to be monitored by a competent psychiatrist when you're on these drugs. They can cause you to kill yourself simply because you want to, and not because of the drug itself. |

Do you see anything wrong with the fact that despite (presumably) not having any medical training, you already know what you want your diagnosis to be and what medication you want for it? |

Ahh I think I misspoke. I meant that it was such a horrid experience that at that moment, I would have rather died. I don't have any true thoughts of suicide, I was just trying to convey how it made me feel at that moment. |

If you call one of the colleges or universities and ask for English, they have psych testing for things like that and then they give the medicine or write a script for you. It's cheaper too than going to a doctor or hospital. |

Does your school find out via insurance when you receive medication or get testing done? |

I tell them flat out what medications I get and what tests I have done. I don't care who knows about my stuff. I got my health check results back and made a copy for my boss, for his files. |

Wow if you only knew the inner workings of the legal drug trade you would be shocked and not make such ignorant comments. It might come to a surprise to you but most gp's know very little about mental conditions but are all too happy to prescribe medication. Actually most shrinks know little about the mind. The biggest experts on how the mind works are meditators or a open minded person who studies both the science and meditation. I would say 90% of meditators would say that 90% of the people on drugs shouldn't be. Go on believing fairy tales about Gp's being so smart and understanding both the mind and the body. |

so once you get your health insurance, your school or employer is notified about what medications you take? My concearn would be that they would look down upon this because add drugs/anxiety drugs seem to be looked down upon in the Korean society. I take an anxiety drug and while it is a very low dosage I am thinking about weening myself off of it completely becasue I dont want my employer to know and think that i cant handle the stress that may come with the job. |
