I'd like one of those! Do they have to be bought here to work here?
Maybe I could import one and get a better deal.
OP, G-Market and Yongsan are probably the easiest choices for finding them here. |

Check your PM.
There seem to be the "cheap" kind with a basic monochrome text display (which is probably all you really need) and then the super-flash models with the color maps.
Now, how easy would it be to get a map of Korea for one of these units? And do the higher end units work in "text mode" if you don't have a map?
Thanks!

| I bought my magellan Triton 500 from Gmarket. You can make your own maps from satellite images from google earth. Great GPS. |

Can you give a quick overview of how to make the maps (do I need third party software, etc)?
Sorry to ask so many questions, but I want to get the right unit, and I don't want to get stuck with one that I can only use half the functions because I am in Korea. |

i had looked for one in Yongsan, they don't have them there.
I posted a 'to buy' here on Dave's ESL cafe, and got a bite. I am pretty happy with mine here, and got a really simple used model good for hiking/geocaching. |

I'd be curious to know which model you got.
I also want to know if those that know about these things think that the map function is a big deal.
I have looked on GMarket. GREAT selection. None of them ship to Korea though |

| huh? why wouldn't they ship to korea? Gmarket is korean isn't it? when I looked up the Triton 500 another posted recommended above, it seems that they ship to korea. The seller's phone number is even a korean one. |

I couldn't find any of the Garmin models or even a Magellan. They all had "Not Available" listed in the international shipping options. Since the seller is in the US (usually) I take that to mean they won't ship to Korea. |

as to whether or not the map function is a big deal, that depends on what you are using it for.
