The worst is probably graphics cards. For My next upgrade, I would dearly love a 4870x2......$400 or less on Newegg..........800,000 plus in Korea!!!
Actually, a Sapphire 4870X2 (with a free game) is $359 on Newegg.....460,000won.......mail in the $20 rebate and that makes it $339=434,000won.......
One solitary 4870X2 is listed on Danawa for over 1,000,000 won.  Another solitary one on Enuri for over 800,000. 5 models are for sale on Newegg.
It's been this way since before the big currency change. For some reason, high-end computer stuff is horribly overpriced here.....or just not available. |
That kind of thing can be worth saving for your trip home.
You don't usually buy expensive graphic cards several times a year. If you want to make major computer upgrades, some things are okay here, but some things aren't. Grab the super expensive stuff home and get the okay stuff here. putting a graphics card in your carry on is no big deal. Putting 10 is a problem...
Its a bigger issue if you absolutely must have it right now.. but my 7900GTX is still holding its own (its a laptop anyway, but I can run Arma 2 and GTAIV just fine!) but if I wanted to upgrade it I could wait until a trip home if the price difference was that huge. |

Duty free is usually a rip-off. The HK airport is nice, but if you've ever been into town you will see that you can get some absolute bargains if you know a bit of Cantonese and can bargain down prices. I guess if you pay sticker in Asia you will probably pay a bit more.
As for Canada, it's usually more expensive then the US. However if you've ever tried to import anything into Canada from the US you will get hit with ridiculous import duties and 'brokerage fees' so it ends up being about the same. |
