|
|
I got notification and a document stating that I will be payed 25,000won per after school class. Upon receiving my pay, the school only gave me 20,000won per class and said that they forgot to tell me the pay changed. Why did the pay change? My Principal attended some POE meeting and they thought it better to lower the payment. Great! Now there is some pending negotiations taking place between the after school program teacher and the P. The only reason there is anything happening is because I kept the paper written in Korean they gave me that stated my payment would be 25,000won. You might think five bucks is not too much but after 80 classes it adds up. If they screw me, is there anything I can do? Talk to my dink EPIK coridnator or the Labor Board...? |

How many students were in your classes?
I took a pay cut last year because there were only seven students in the class. I probably could have fought it, but they bumped my pay up this term (and the class is larger), so there won't be a pay cut this time (I hope).
If the 400,000K is worth the trade offs, you should definitely kick up a stink. |

Did they 'forget' to tell you about our paycut? I was expecting a certain amount and then I look at my account and it's not there. You knw the feeling. And the principal. "Hey come work for X amount of dollars. Good job, here's Z." |

This is why I would never teach afterschool classes unless they paid me up front. |

Or you were contractually obliged to teach x amount of classes a week and they can force another 6 hours of overtime a week at the rate in the contract. (which for many public schools is 20,000).
Or do you just ignore the contract? |

Although my contract says OT rate is at 20,000 won, my contract doesn't force me to teach OT. I can negotiate and get paid in advance at what ever rate I feel is right for me. Otherwise, I'd refuse. |

Yeah, it's not much, so they shouldn't mind paying it. That's my philosophy. |

Call Epik. If no results threaten to go to the Labour Board. If nothing works, go to the Labour Board.
Don't misplace that paper which states you will be getting 25,000 won.
If you are not renewing, you have nothing to lose. |

Most of us average about 30000 and I get 60000 for one of my schools. The contract says 20000 but I would refuse to work for that. They are bending the truth about the POE changing it as most schools can give 30000.

Well then your contract is different from the Standard GEPIK contract (which is very similar to the EPIK one) , which states you may be forced to teach up to 6 hours of OT a week, and only anything above that requires you to agree. If your contract is different, Kudos to you. |
