It's still worthwhile getting yourself to a sleep clinic especially if you find yourself sleeping in the day time, as someone mentioned above because you could have a form of sleep apnea.

I agree with brainfreeze. Getting things checked out at a sleep clinic is a good idea. Should it be discovered that you suffer from sleep apnea you'll benefit greatly by getting it treated early on. Failing to get it treated can lead to avoidable, long term health problems. I nearly waited too long in seeking medical attention for sleep apnea. Don't make the same mistake I did. Best of luck.

Bluzusi, Not to hijack this thread, but I am curious what kind of treatment you opted for. I am guessing CPAP? I was diagnosed with sleep apnea in 2005 with an average of 37 interruptions per hour. Unfortunately I have been unsuccessful with CPAP even after trying 4 different masks. It's like trying to go to sleep with a jock strap on your head. I feel like Darth Vader. They said it was due to weight so I lost the excess pounds and it's worse than ever!

In addition to apnea I also have horrible insomnia. Benzos and drugs like Ambien are evil. Here in the states I use medical marijuana and sleep like a baby. The problem is that it's not a good long term solution and obviously not an option if I go overseas again. NO, I would never, ever think of doing it in another country, except maybe the Netherlands. I am going to give yoga a try. I would love to be able to go to sleep without the aid of drugs or booze.

Sleep problems are indeed hell.

Bluzusi, I take it you plan on not warning them about the "pleasures" of CPAP.

You are not alone. Anecdotally 75-80% of patients really dislike it. Even with constant adjustments there is very little that can be done (to make it comfortable).

travelingfool, you're correct I use CPAP now. Yes, initially, it was awkward using a full mask. Like you, I had multiple interruptions in my sleep cycle per hour and was very tired during the day. With CPAP I'm sleeping through the night and wake up much more alert than in the past. I'm sorry to hear that you've been unsuccessful using a mask. Like you said, sleep disorders can be pure hell.
