When does the orientation for SMOE, for the fall 2009 intake, begin? On the phone during my interview, the interviewer told me that I would need to arrive on the 20th for orientation, however, I've seen some people state that it begins the 24th on this forum.

That's weird, I was under the impression that it was on the 25th or something. My contract from SMOE says I begin around that time. Guess I'm leaving earlier than expected...

So it is 7 days long? Has it been that long in the past, I was under the impression that it was shorter.

Yeah, it was 3 maybe 4 days. Been a few years.

Wow, 7 days...oh my. 4 people in a room for 6 nights, 1 key. Have fun.

I was told it's on 8/24, Monday, but I'm getting to Korea a bit early.

Anyone else in the same boat?

The official program/stuff begins on the 24th. However, people start arriving on the Friday/Sat/Sun prior and are met at the airport and whised off to Yongin where the orientation will be held.

That's the story surrounding those dates. Those already in Korea will probably arrive the Sunday night prior.

Cheers,

The letter I received with my notice of appointment says to arrive by August 23rd, and we will be staying at Hyundai Learning Center for one week.

ahsieee,

Jessie is correct. It is at the Hyundai training center. About 1 - 1.5 hours south of Seoul.

It's a new, world class coporate training facility. You'll have great meals (but for the most part Korean food), there's a store, internet cafe, sports facilities / gym, store all on location. It isn't a tough grind and use the time to network with other teachers and gather ideas for your teaching.

Buy some beer at the airport and make sure you bring a good book cause you're gonna be in lockdown for a week.

it is fun to meet the other jet-lagged teachers but it isnt fun to be confined to a building.

GREAT MEALS!!!.... If you like leftover Korean food that has been served every single day of the orientation (or at least tasted like it when I got there...)

Oh, and it's so world class that you'll be asked not to leave the grounds...

Have fun new SMOErs, see you on the other side! Razz

(Sorry ddeubel, just didn't want to get their hopes too high for orientation Wink )
