I know this may come off as an ignorant foreigner question, but why does anyone go to hofs?

If there's a Korean restuarant next door, why not go there? The drinks are the same, but the food is ten times as good and 1/10th the price.

The Izakaya places are ok. They have slightly better food and a decent selection of drinks, but a standard hof with a choice of fruit platter, bundaegi and nogari just doesn't strike me as a great place to go.

Why not just go get some dakgalbi or any other type of appetizing korean foods? Most of these places carry Cass, Soju and Baekseju.

So again, what is the appeal of a hof?

not all hofs have terrible food. they don't all follow one business model. i'd imagine that most people head to hofs for draught beer.

It's a social thing....With friends it's a blast....also there is a ton of hoffs with totally different decors and quality of food.

Garten Bier in Gangnam is one of my faves...give it a try.

We go to the Garten Bier in Bundang and always buy the 3 story high glass of beer, even though we hate drinking them. I really don't understand why we do it.

We usually go to hofs so we can get pints of beer. In our local hof it's only 2000won per pint of beer, less than you can buy a can for from family mart. The food is pretty shitty but you can have 3 pints of beer and a couple of dishes for 10grand each.

Short story... I like hofs.

Hofs kick ass. Often they have some type of gimmick and the fried chicken is usually great. You can be loud and drunk more than in a restaurant.

I recommend the Bubblecats hof in Yeouido. It's a completely normal hof with beer, fried chicken, and sausages, but the servers are all HOTT and they walk around in miniskirts and little tanktops that bare their midriffs and introduce themselves to you with names like "Star" or "Pink". Then they get on stage and do a song and dance!

Oh, and try telling them it's your birthday and see what happens...

Phrase your question thusly:

Why go to a bar when you can go to a restaurant?

Sometimes you want a bar.

Because they have live beer? And you don't have to sit on the sanguinary floor?
