The way I see it, the moment you invoke the Nazis, you instantly lose the debate. It doesn't matter how good your argument is, you lose.

There is even a name for the tendency of every internet discussion to eventually come around to one side calling the other "Nazi" or "fascist."

Does anyone remember it?

Godwin's Law.

Perhaps Rusty meant this post ironically (given the title and his posting history, I doubt it), but for some reason I feel one of our board's ultra-Conservative denizens trying to invoke Godwin's Law regarding the climate change debate is very representative of the overall Conservative strategy in this debate.

Wow, that's a long sentence. So, who are "Conservatives" accusing of being Nazis? Btw I resent being called a conservative. It's an American term of which I am not. Feel free to call me a Nazi, though.

How about Obama, for a start?

If you provide me with your nation's politically equivalent term, I'll happily use it instead.

You have little in common with the Nazi party in terms of the policies you wish to see implemented. Calling you a Nazi would be incorrect.

"Liberals" didn't call Bush a Nazi?

I'm not a big fan of labels. Have I ever called you names, except for maybe "Communist" in a pejorative sense? Labels only put up walls and stop people from seeing what they have in common. They act more like a banner or a sports team, something to support and have a phony antagonism about against other people.

If you must label me, I'm happy with Classical Liberal. It's just a shame you guys co-opted the term.

**sob*sniff** JUST LEAVE AL GORE ALONE!!!*sob**

He didn't invoke the Nazis (I summon Hiiiitler!!!!), he was talking about a Churchilian spirit to 'save civilisation'. If you believe in global warming then it's a pretty big deal. Millions, probably billions of the poorest people in the world will be adversely affected (and possibly die) because of global warming: it could have irreversible effects on the climate.

We should leave the debate about whether 'global warming' is happening to another thread.

Some did, but you asked who Conservatives called one, and I answered you.

Labels are merely a convenient classification tool, but if you don't like them, I won't use them on you. No reason for me to pointlessly antagonize.

Question I don't think anyone has mentioned the validity of the 'global warming' debate.

He likened not believing in GW to appeasement. That kinda does involve at least a reference to Hitler.

Al Gore is a massive phony. He has a lot to lose from free debate in the media of GW. As do tens of thousands of others.

Regardless of where one stands on any given issue including this one, you are absolutely correct.

It reveals an inability or unwillingness to equate problems in a historically proportional manner. Gore has long since stepped over that line, showing that even a Harvard grad (who probably got in as a legacy admission anyhow) can exhibit poor argumentative skills when his zealotry gets the best of him.

Three decades ago environmentalists were warning of a cooling Earth. Now they have reversed themselves. Time will tell, indeed, whether this is just the latest clarion call from the Left or not.

It's certainly overblown and now any reputable environmental scientist who dares call global warming into question is shunned or shunted aside.

Neither does this issue fall neatly along party lines as the far Left loonies would like you to believe.

Newt Gingrich is much more informed on the environment than Gore.

And no, Newt isn't a skeptic.
