I'm in Korea on a tourist visa. I've signed a contract with a school in Daegu. I gave the school a copy of my passport, actual degree, transcripts, and passport photos. I just got a call from the boss telling me that Immi doesn't know I'm even in Korea.
I scanned the stamps in my passport for when I left Korea back in April to go to Tokyo and the stamps from when I returned from that trip, giving me 90 days on a tourist visa. I've emailed them to the boss.
Anyone ever encounter this problem? |

Do they really keep track of tourists or claim they do? All you do is show your passport and I assume they stamp it (last time I did this was in 1994 in London).
Wouldn't it make sense to just go into immigration with the passport, inform them that you are on a tourist visa now, but you want to change to E2 or whatever?
I don't see what the big deal is. |

Consulate interview, depending on whether he's had an E2 before. |

He's taught in Korea before. I think there is a something else that hasn't been mentioned, like why he left and maybe why he wouldn't want to waltz into immigration and do visa business like usual.
I also note the lack of a CRC. Why is that? |

I forgot to mention CRC, but I did hand that in as well. The point was that Immi told my employer that they have no record of me entering Korea. At least that's the message I was told. I found it strange and thought I'd poll the group. |

It may have something to do with it. I had totally forgotten about that. At the time, the Immi agent did not fine me for the error like he could have.
Also, the Immi agent changed my passport number in the computer system, so I should be in the system with my new passport number.
It seems odd that Immi would check to see if I had come to Korea already. My new passport has the computer chip in it, so if they keep them, Immi should have record of my coming to Korea in April. |

This also happened to me 2 years ago when I was applying for a new ARC for a new job. I was there in person at the immi. office when they were all worried about something. Then they said:
"We can not process your card because according to our computor records you have not yet returned to Korea." 
So, I said:
"But here I am."
Then they processed it.
And yes, it was also in my passport that they had at that time. |

That's what I asked the boss. He said no. Boss is in Daegu, and I'm in Seoul, if that means anything. |

| Just got an email from the boss. The documents I sent did the trick and I have my E2 visa approval number. He didn't give me any other details. |
