I would like to apply to a Seoul Public school. When does the winter semester for 2010 start? How early do I have to apply? Where do I apply? Thanks!

Instead of posting multiple one line threads, why not make one with all your questions (all of which have been answered hundreds of times already).

Semesters start in September and March. September 2009 for Seoul is all full, though a few spots may come up later. They haven't started recruiting for March yet. I'd suggest applying in November to get in early.

"Where to apply?" On the top of your screen click on "jobs" Then click on "Korean Jobs Board". There are hundreds of jobs there posted every week. For public schools in Seoul look for ADs which say "public school in Seoul" (or a variation thereof) or "SMOE". They will probably start advertising for March 2010 jobs from October.

PS. If I was a recruiter, I'd patrol these boards looking for posts like the one above and send them a PM, the meat doesn't get much fresher than this. Easy cash Very Happy

Isn't there a website where you can apply online without having to go through a recruiter?

I think you can apply through EPIK/GEPIK/SMOE directly and not have to go through a recruiter. Having said that, I went through a recruiter and didn't find it too much hassle.

Do what everyone else does; look on the job boards every day and search the internet for information. Don't just rely on one source.

Don't bother. They aren't any better than hagwons now.
And what the other guy said.

I 100% agree. I will finish at my public school in September, and I am strongly considering going back to a hagwon.

The 2 guys above me are dead on. Public School suck balls for the most part.

Actually Poet13....I remember a while back you had a real hate for hagwons and liked the PS system. I guess Public Schools really have gone down the toilet if even old fans are renouncing them.

Yes, you're right Zantetsuken. But with the recent pullback on most benefits, especially camp pay, I think it's become more than even. I also think that for the informed (and prepared to do battle if necessary), a hagwon would be a better gig.

I finish at my PS (3rd contract), and will go home to the Philippines to be a farmer. 98 days and counting.

When you add up the plus and minuses they come out similar...but at least with the hagwons you don;t have to deal with as many co-workers and people wanting you to kiss their ass....

By the way,...you're the first person who has spelled my Online name correctly...nice-uh

F U Z-Man... I'm a state school fan 'til I die. I've got this rad quote from BMOE Director Kim tattooed on my back: "let's hardly work this year loving children".

I do try on the spelling. The best part about the hagwon gig was that I didn't have to sit around when I didn't have class.
I did a class from 11-11:50 am and then started at 2:30. It left a lot of day for me. Sure I finished at 8:30, but that wasn't so bad considering. The worst part was getting ripped off. But as I said before, I am now informed and financially stable enough to go to war with someone.

Gosh, I kind of do wish I was teaching six classes at a hagwon today instead of listening to music and surfing the internet/reading all matters of interest etc.

Hey man, I hear your thoughts about public school (fellating egos etc.) but honestly my co-workers wouldn't have that much to say about me spending a lot of time online. I spend most of the day in my classroom alone as they sleep and/or do pretty much the same thing. I'm not saying it's perfect or a a particularly rewarding teaching experience, but I've worked at a hagwon...

*please* don't make me go back.

Let them talk, anyway. It's practically Chinese.
