Local Requests in Korea:
Koreans and Non-Koreans should visit their nearest police station and request a Criminal History Information Record (CHIR) [Bumjoi Gyung-ryuck Jaryo Hoibo-seo; 범죄 경력 자료 회보서]. One has to bring an ID such as a passport or an alien registration card in person. Near the embassy, the Namdaemoon police station (Scientific Investigation Team tel: 02-777-0795) provides the service within a day, but the processing time could be different depending on the police station you contact. There is no fee for the service.
Overseas Requests:
Overseas applicants should request their Criminal History Information Record (CHIR: 범죄 경력 자료 회보서) through the nearest Korean Consulate General or Korean Embassy. (This is highly recommended as it is normally the fastest way to obtain the CHIR.)

There is a form that you might have to fill out. I can send it to you, if you can't get one otherwise. |

Is the printed certificate result of it in Korean, or English? I.e does it need a certified translation for the Board at home as well? |

Give the Korean consulate in NZ a call. I had to get one for a job in Canada, and the consulate here told me exactly what I had to do. I emailed a form to them and then they handled the documents on the Korean side- including translation of the report into English.
I believe all mine said was that the Korean police force had no record of me. |

In Australia you fill out and submit a form to the Korean consulate. They process that form and then give you a document in Korean verifying your details. You then send that document to police HQ in Korea, and they send back your criminal history check. |
