Over the whole racism thing is what I noticed. You know, some are shouting 'racism' others are shouting 'suck it up, buttercup'. Of course, logically, no one wants to back down, I can understand, but it is really so hard to believe that well both parties are right?

Call me a fence-sitter, which I probably am. I'm not big on arguements. Especially ones that go nowhere. Anyway, please bare with the uni student and let's see if we can't all get along with each other (probably not, but it's worth a try).

For those who don't want to read it all, just go to the bottom to view my main point. Forgive any crappy english mistakes. I'm too lazy to proofread.

Calling out the Racism Folks
Alright, so I can understand calling BS on the whole 'he's staring at me' racism thing. That's not racism. That's just some guy who's drunk and or a person who is curious. I'm sure you've stared, or at least glanced at people on the bus before. Could be because of their race, could be from what you're wearing, could be because there's something behind them. Who knows. Either way, you have people like that everywhere. You have to ignore them. It'll put you more at ease.

And of course, the whole joint, poker, blah-blah-blah. Come on guys- smarten up. You don't think the police do the same thing back home? They do. Watch the news. Well, Canadian news anyway. I don't know about the other ones. It does happen everywhere and it is more severe if the person is an immigrant. Gotta learn to play the game properly.

That being said, if someone is drunk and yelling at you in your face, trying to beat you up, calling you derogatory names- yeah, I can understand getting upset over it. I do. Would, especially if it's your employer who is the one that hired you and is now bitching at you because you're foreign. A bit hypocritical. Makes sense if you want to stand up for yourself if you're really being treated wrongly. Makes complete sense.

Alright then. So I can get how the whole whining can get tiring. It makes sense to me. How does someone staring at you on the bus count as racism? I get that. However, don't think that we don't do the same thing back home either. There is many honkings from the 'politically correct' that could make me want strangle someone. I've already mentioned most of these before.

-The whole new Disney Princess not getting with a Black Prince. Really? That worth causing an uproar? The the French complaining about the frog speaking with a French accent? Come on...

-Miley Cyrus and that dumb squinty eye photo thing. Yeah- it was stupid, ignorant and so forth, but trying to sue her for 3-5 million dollars to compensate for the Asian community? Hmm...

-Capcom bases their new Resident Evil game in Africa, meaning you have to shoot mostly black zombies. Their past six games were all white zombies. Yes, yes, I KNOW the main character is as white as the driven snow, but... zombies. You know you'd shoot them if they tried to eat you.

Blah, blah, blah. You know what I mean, you've probably seen it yourselves. My point of it is- don't think that whites are the only ones who complain over weird things.

Racism in General

Lotsa folks say that if you're white, you shouldn't be allowed to complain about racism because of what they did and what goes around comes around. Now maybe it's because I'm a Canadian or something, but I've always found that arguement kind of flawed.

Yes, in the past, there were a lot of jackasses who treated minorities less than human. Those type of people deserve a rather large and uncomfortable pole up where the sun don't shine. KKK should get what they did and are still doing. Buncha douche bags.

However, believe it or not but not ALL white folks are evil and want you dead. There were those and still many who fight for minority rights, even if you don't see it. If someone is being politically incorrect or even borderline racist, it's usually my white friends who are gonna call foul, oddly enough.

As for racism and prejudice being a purely white thing, that really ain't the case. It's just the most recent, so people remember it better. But that doesn't mean they're they only ones that were guilty. I'd say everyone is guilty of hating someone else.

So, of course, we had the Greeks, Romans, Persians. They were killing and enslaving whomever was there.

You have the Japanese who refused to acknowledge their native population. Ainu, Emichi, etc.

There's the Northern and Southern Irish always fighting about religion.

Indians and Pakistanis as well...

French and the English. Don't need to say more.

Various African tribes are still fighting against each other, even when the white man isn't around.

On that note, African Americans claiming that someone isn't Black enough.

The Iroquois hated everyone and fought with everyone.

Germans went crazy for awhile too...

Looks at China with Tibet? Or just that riot the other day?

Yes, I'm aware this isn't very educated or professional. Bare with me. I'm stupid. Either way, you get the idea. Everyone has had an issue with everyone. And when they didn't, the rich fiddled with the poor. Or the popular kids with beat on the kid with glasses. The list goes on.


My point is
In a nutshell...both parties are right.... and wrong. So can we move on and complain about something else?

For instance, I hate waterproof matches. Not matter how many I try, they don't freaking work. Anyone else feel the same? Or no matter where you sit near a fireplace, the smoke follows you? What the hell is up with that?

Good post. Lots of very correct observations, trouble is there's no fighting stupid.
Stupid likes things the way they are and will resist learning or change to its last breath. Plus there are innumerable excuses for stupid.

Bottom line, you are in essence wholly correct. Both in the title and how things should be. I would much rather get along with someone than challenge them. I also love a good discussion, too many think a discussion is a fight and someone must win.
I say sit back on the sidelines, before you know it there will be a small crowd of people who enjoy conversation you can have fun with. As you are back there wave yoru arms arround when the large crowd does to make it look like you care. That way they will leave you be to enjoy your life.

Racism won�t go away it�s the last effort for stupid to win or end the argument.

Anybody with the slightest knowledge of history (not propaganda) and common sense should know that racism is everywhere. But I think foreigners here have every right to complain about being discriminated against. Sometimes its just a misunderstanding and sometimes its actual discrimination. I don't see anything wrong with talking about.

Truth? Well, I don't know about that... but it's at least a middle ground and getting a least a few things cleared up.

lol i make this same argument whenever certain races think theyre allowed to be dicks cuz they were tarets of racism. it's not just you... youre not special. if they knew any history at all... theyd understand that theyre not entitled to anything more than anyone else, in my opinion.

besides, how is the world supposed to get better when one race owes another race (or their own) for their enslavement or whatever? let's take african american slavery for an example. apparantly they can be bitches and blame all their low income problems on white man keepin him down or whatever. sure i feel bad for them that they had to go through that, but cmon. rise above it now that youve been granted your freedom. don't dwell on it.

they are granted special privilages and programs, yet many don't take advantage of them. instead, its like they enjoy being the way they are so that they can keep on saying that oh they were enslaved yadda yadda yadda. no one forces them to skip school and join gangs. the chinese exclusion act was the only time an actual race was forbidden to enter america based on their race. the japanese were forced into internment camps during the war. yet somehow... i rarely hear them complain about these atrocities... and they don't seem to be doing too bad in america... they end up going to college... finishing high school... opening successful businesses...

(im not racist against african americans. it was just an example. and i live in oakland so i see a lot of this kinda thing. not trying to start drama either! just my 2 cents hehe.)

Yeah, the victim role does get very tiring and old fast. I'm not saying that racism still doesn't happen to these people. I mean, just on the news I saw this poor guy get beat up randomly by three white guys. I think it was in Vancouver. However, you can tell things have gotten better because various people actually went to help him. And it wasn't just people of the same race- it was just people. And he got a lot of support.

Also the flip side to the Victim roles, I'd say would be the person who's complaining about how 'all them there immigrants are taking our jobs'. Those people piss me off because they usually don't have a work ethic to start with.

Like I said, balance.
