I think I was meant to have lived sometime in the age of Kings and fiefdoms, and before gunpowder.

How about you?

Toothbrushes, personal cleansing products, shaved leggs, and medical care are a few of my favorite things.

I'll take the 19th and beyond centuries for 1000 Alex
Future is mighty tempting, would be nice to zip across the star system with a clean greenskin by my side.

The 60's. I've lived the bohemian life for years - but I missed all the really good times.

Missed the 60's by a whisker (sob). That's probably why my brain still functions comparitively OK.

Nevermind, I still got to wear the pasley /sheepskin jerkins and ripped jeans. And, yes, greasy long hair was my bag, baby.

I enjoy antibiotics, labor laws, free speech, laser eye surgery and internet pron too much to go back too far.

I'd like to dip into the future and travel to a different planet. Assuming, of course, the future isnt a zombie wasteland, an ecological dystopia or Sarah Palin becomes president.

a grade 5 student of mine wrote an essay on 'What other country would you like to visit' and choose China, saying he saw on t.v. a show about its history and he thinks he should have been an Emperor, that if he was living hundreds of years ago he would be the Emperor. He even stated then that he was sad that he isn't an Emperor, that he is only a boy in Korea Laughing

Judging by my family name, minor aristocracy in Bavaria.

edit: So what.. Choose 21st C. America: where and doing what? You might be an illegal Mexican immigrant working in a tobacco factory; you might be a mentally retarded siamese twin with muscular dystrophy. The question allows you to have other attributes in mind as well, apart from just place and time.

got a kick out of this: what would you have been had you lived in Tudor times?

ok, so you're not part of the nobility, but you're probably the highest ranking of the commoners. You own a bit of land, probably employ a few people, and are reasonably respected in the community.

Crap. It shot up to King, and I felt pretty smug...until it rolled all the way down to beggar. Guess I shouldn't have listed happiness as a primary goal.
I changed from academia to farmer, all others being the same, and relisted as yeoman farmer. I'm ok with that.

You would have to be mad to want to live any other time than now. The poorest ESLer lives 100 times better than the 5 richest Kings of Europe did even 100 years ago. It's just that there are people richer than us that makes people feel like they are poor.
