The situation:

This school (school A) is closing down for construction from July 17th to September 1st. I was told my company (Daekyo) has spoke to the principal ad got permission for me to teach at a second school (school B) until School A starts again. I am now waiting for my Daekyo manager to fix the visa to show 2 schools.

My manager has told me after September first I can work in both schools (I guss she is working on fixing the visa to ok both schools for the rest of my contract). I will work a schedule like MWF at School A, and TTH at School B. In addition to my original salary they will give me 200,000 more won per month as compensation for any troubles and traveling.

My working hours are always 12:00pm to 5:00pm. I was told both schools will stick to this schedule.

QUESTION 1: Is this perfectly legal as long as the visa allows it and I have the proper stamps on my ARC? About how long does this take? As of now I have not begun the process and I am 'supposed' to begin at School B on the 17th. I will tell her I will not work until I have the proper visa stamps or what ever.

QUESTION 2: Would it be too much to request written proof from the principal stating I have permission to work the remaining period of my contract at 2 schools? I feel it's a bit shady since she said 'he has given you permission to work at 2 schools until September' and then she also said I will continue at 2 schools after September... I want this in his words.

QUESTION 3:

If my payment and contract is physically with School A, then my vacation time and payment comes from the school itself and not Daekyo? In this case how does a second school factor in? I am confused about who is paying me exactly. If I work for a second school shouldn't I need a second contract and the whole deal? Even if it's 2 or 3 times a week?

Are we talking about a PS or a Hagwon?

If it's a PS:

Q1: You don't need permission from immigration to work at another school if it's in the same POE. Your contract clearly states that they can make you teach in any POE facility, school, center etc....

Q2: No need to get a written piece of paper because ultimately it's the government paying you. I work at 4 schools and get paid by my main one. In your case School A would still be paying you.

Q3: See above

If it'a a Hagwon:

Q1: Yes, you do need to get permission from immigration and they should write the name of the school on the back of you're ARC.

Q2: Get written permission from the director regarding your 200k extra allowance. No need to mention a second school if it's already on your ARC.

Q3: You don't need a second contract if you have permission to work at a second school. I'd bet any money that your school is being paid by School B to let you work there, and they may be nice enough to let you in on a piece of the pie, hence the 200k.

I work in an afterschool program in a public school. Daekyo runs the program, and they run many programs in public schools. Daekyo is a private company but I work in a public school and the school itself pays me (I believe). This is where it gets confusing regarding a public school or private school because it's kind of in the middle.

Any ideas regarding this?

PS, my school is in gyonggido but I live in Seoul, and the new school is in Seoul. (Different province but both schools are within a 20 min train ride from my apartment)

Who is your contract sponsored by? If it's the Daekyo company than they just need permission from immi. If it's the school, then you're a PS employee I believe.

Your contract is presumably with that private company. That means that you are not a public school employee. Follow afsjesse's response for hagweon employees.

My contract is with the PS. My visa and ARC are all tied to the PS.

If this is the case then how does one make sense of working in 2 different PSes while getting paid by only the first one (even with a 200k payment boost)?

EDIT:

I could understand if my pay was from Daekyo and they were on my visa etc. Then I would just be working at a different 'Daekyo' location even if it's in a PS. However it's the PS paying me every month not Daekyo (that I know of).

It's the government that gives the school the money to pay you. Your main school is the one in charge of paying you because that is your employer. You should have no concern about who pays you if your a PS employee. Working for another PS is legal because you are a POE employee.

So payment is not something I should worry about if it's coming from the same source.

Now what worries me is the visa regulations (I am on an E2) and according to you working in 2 public schools is ok.

If my original contract states I have 1 week unpaid vacation should I be allowed to take it when I want regardless of the second school? I want to take it from the 17th to 27th (when my first school closes) and then pick up with the second school the following week. Is it ok to request this? I seem to be hitting a wall with my paid vacation (they are fixed on the first week of August).

That's only if both schools are in the same province. The situation for the OP has one school in Seoul and the other Gyeonggido. That's two different POEs and thus two different employers.
