Just thought it would be interesting to get an informal round-up.
I'm flying out of Chicago, and ultimately going to teach in Daegu.
How are your documents coming along? Booked your flight yet?
There's a little over a month left, and I just applied for my visa and mailed off my diploma copy. |

I am going to be at EPIK orientation, also flying out of Chicago, going to Daejeon.
Still need to buy a ticket, but it looks like I can still get one in the $700 range.
Also, where are you mailing your diploma copy too? I still need to get my visa from the Chicago consulate, according to their website, I only need to send these things:
1) Valid Passport and 1 copy of its personal data page
2) Completed visa application
3) A passport picture (2x2, color) attached to application
4) Visa Fee : $45
* Money order only
- pay to : Korean Consulate General
- Cash accepted in person
5) Notice of Appointment
6) Employment Contract
7) Self-addressed, pre-paid envelope for return of the passport by mail
No CRC, transcripts, or diploma needed. Is this what you gave them? I called to confirm, but the visa lady I spoke with didn't speak very good English and directed me back to the website... |

I'm not positive about the E-2 visa (I qualified for the F-4), but I can tell you that I tried to call them for days and the woman kept telling me to call back later, or didn't answer the phone at all. Good luck with her. We were redirected to a different, much more friendly woman when we went in person.
Are you mailing the application or are you going in person? I think if that's what the website says, then you should be good. However, if you're going in person, I would bring your diploma or transcripts just in case.
Also, I'm mailing the diploma copy to my recruiting agency's Korean office, and they forward it to the appropriate people. |

Ah, alright, well thanks for the help!
Yeah, I'm getting an E-2, and mailing my stuff there (I'm in Minneapolis right now). I suppose if there's something wrong with what I send them, I'd have time to fix it.
I'm not sure what I'm doing with my diploma yet either...I should ask my recruiter, I thought I just had to bring it with me to Korea.
Anyway, good luck and hopefully I'll see you at orientation! |

Hmm, maybe I should travel back there, get a motel room, and smuggle in alcohol and soju.
For the right price, of course. |

| I think I might be on your flight from San Fran as well, although I'm from St. Louis. I'll be teaching in Ulsan too. |
