So is anyone interested in the possibility of having "ethnic" ladies' luncheons? There are so many kinds of food I've never tried and would be fun to experience! Some ideas.....
Indian
Arabic
Thai
Are there others in the Itaewon area that are good? I really don't know, but I had a really nice time on Saturday and we really should do it again.
Sorry for not meeting up later in Cheonan--I was so tired after walking around Seoul for 2 days. I went home and fell asleep by 9 pm! I hope you all had a good time.

Yes, lets! I vote for Thai Orchid in Itaewon (directly across the road from Delices) for the next one... I'm leaving Korea in 4 weeks, so I hope we can have the next one before then... say in three weeks, Feb 21st? |

LOL If it's in late Feb, I might be at home. I'll then join you in spirit, hopefully eating spanakopita from the local Greek restaurant. |

my vote goes for thai orchid in itaewon. I love the food there. It's a bit pricey but well worth it.
However I won't be back available until the first weekend in march

Waterbaby, the 21st is fine for me, and I haven't had Thai food in a year--sounds good! Anyone else? How much would it cost for lunch at the Thai Orchid?

I think we should make these a regular thing. Maybe one every month or so as I'm going to miss the 21st as I will be in kiwiland. |

Well, how about Thai this time & Indian next time?
Justagirl... I usually get a curry or pad thai noodles and they each cost about 10,000 won. Yummo. Throw in an entree and that's about another 8~10,000 won. Soft drinks are 3,000 won and I think the beer is around 4~5,000. For two people, I usually spend around 30~40,000 but sometimes as little as 25,000. 10% tax stings a little.
Perhaps we can order a whole array of food and share it between us? |

Waterbaby, I love the idea of sharing. Then I get to try more things and find out what I like and what I don't. That's one thing from Korea that I think is great--the sharing of food at restaurants! It never fails that I always have a tough time choosing between 2 or 3 things. Thanks for giving an idea of the price, too.
So, I heard a suggestion of Feb 21st. Should we make a new posting, as some people might not be reading an older thread about last weekend's luncheon?

Done! I split the Delices thread and started this one.
Same time... 1.30pm? |

I'd love to go, but I've gotta stay in my city, at least one weekend a month ( haven't managed that so far)
Perhaps the second weekend in MArch would be good? That way Katydid and CLG could come too?
I'd love to try decent Thai food, and I've heard great things about Thai Orchid.
As for Arabic- AliBaba's does passable arabic food- and their hummus is great. |

Ethnic ladies lunch? Do we have to be "ethnic" to come? By the way, if I am German American, isn't that an ethnicity? Am I ethnic? (It is actually a question that has bothered me. Like all white people are just people, but "people of color" are "ethnic.")
Sorry for the digression. I hope to be able to come. I will be arriving back into Seoul from Manila on the 20th, and was thinking on staying over for a day or two anyway.
Ethnic food is great for me. I love everything (with a few notable exceptions such as things that are still alive, and larvae of any sort). Indian would be great, as I get Thai from the source fairly often. But Thai is good too. |

actually, as a group of Foreign Ladies seen from an Korean's point of view, we are the major ethnic component of our gatherings!
yet as regarding cuisine, "ethnic" remains that which is foreign to us; the more exotic, the better! Unfortunately, for many of us, most Korean food no longer fits the bill.
