I'm going to Madrid in August for 3 nights. Any recommendations on places to stay and visit etc?

I stayed there a few weeks ago. It's very nice. Nice part of town and affordable.

Can't tell you where to stay as my daughter's Godfather lives there and we lodge with him when we go... but as to where to go, Madrid is pretty much like your typical capital city.

I would take a trip out to Toledo - wonderful historical town. I think it took us about 30-40 minutes on the train to go there, so it's not far and may be you can go early in the morning and be back in Madrid by early/mid-afternoon.

Go shopping in El Cortes Ingls Wink

We stayed at the Puerto del Sol a few years ago and loved it. Perfect location for walking around - right in the middle of everything.

If you feel like a splurge on a meal then visit La Broche

We went to see Real Madrid which was a good experience (if you like football)

Oh and go and see Guernica at the Reina Sofia gallery:

Yes...I loved Madrid...can you tell?
