So, I'm going to Bali in 2 weeks for about 10 days.

What's the best way to do about this money business?

Take out a large wad of won, convert it in Korea (where?), and take the huge wad of Indonesian rupiah there.

Take out a large wad of won, travel there, convert it bit by bit or in a large lump sum over there in Bali.

Or should I get traveler's checks at the bank? Or some other way? I use nonghyup bank if that matters. I am not sure if my Korean debit card (it says it's an "nonghyup OK check card" and has BC Card and OK cashbag logos on it, and it's orange" would work at the ATMs in Bali or not, so taht's why I'm wondering if I should just take a wad of cash.

I DO have a visa credit card from the states I can use for emergencies, but I don't like using it, and plus, it might be an hassle to pay with my korean bank account.

Also, how long does it take to file an re entry visa?

Re-entry visa is very simple. Go to immigration, fill out the form, pay 50,000won and you live with your Multiple entry visa. (If you don't do this, you can do it at Incheon airport...but you only get a single re-entry and cost is 30,000, so if you plan on travelling more than once...this is not the way to go.)

Don't bring won to Indonesia, if you can find a place that will change it...the rate will suck. Buy US dollars in Korea (the rate at the airport is ok). and change them in Bali as you need. (Many exchange places have a minimum commision, and banks have better rates than other places, so might be in your interest to change money once or twice, rather than multiple times)

Your card almost certainly wont work abroad. BC card is a Korean card and is in no way an international debit card. You'd need a visa, visa election, mastercard or maestro for that. (there's a tiny chance your card might work...so why not try, just for future reference Very Happy)

I'm not sure. Used it just once and went around 6:30-7am...and it was open then. (So could 24hrs, or open at 7 Smile)

OP:
Convert your won to US$ HERE in Korea. Use US$ to buy local currency in Bali. (Take US$100 notes for the best exchange rate).

Do NOT take won out of Korea. It is virtually impossible to exchange in other countries.

The immigration office at the airport is open from 6am - 10pm every day. The cost of a re-entry permit is 30k won (you can only get single use permits from the airport office).

If I convert won to USD and then USD to rupiah, then woudn't I lose more money since I'm converting it twice then if I convert the won to Rupiah directly at the banks here, if they are able to?

yes, you will lose about 10,000 won for every million won you convert. How much did you plan to take anyway?

On the plus side, you will certainly save yourself more than man won worth of problems and aggravation.

Your choice but you can always be a penny smart and pound foolish,
