In most other countries, women look at other "passerby" women with disdain, and/or displeasure. Living in Korea for 7 years, I've noticed Kmen don't have the courage to check out a beauty walking by, but Kwomen do - and check out other Kwomen they do! Prolonged looks from head to toe, looks at other women's bods, and an attempt to gain eye contact after a good visual "once over" are all things I see Kwomen do, to other Kwomen, on a regular basis.

Let's hear your thoughts. Please refrain from hakwon fueled, raging responses. Getting control of that rage would be the first step to getting out of there so don't feed the beast

I've always thought Korean women check each other out to see what the competition is like. They are quite free to gaze at each other without shame or recrimination. Of course with some, it may not be about evaluation or judgment, but simple longing. It's a shame that Korean men have to hide their feelings and can only give a girl a quick sideways glance or turn to look at her after she's already gone by. Sometimes I feel like a perv checking out a Korean woman in my usual direct and unabashed way. Tis a shame.

I think everyone checks out the competition...wherevr they go, men and women.
With women its to see if the other person is better looking and if their b/f is attracted to them. Then they become a rival. With men its just to make sure the other person doesn't pose any sort of threat.
...Unless they've been married for 20 years and no longer have any insecurities I guess.

This is very true.

Especially when I go out for dinner with my wife and her old high school friends. I hear things like, "wow glamour" etc.
The funniest was at a beach, one of my wife's friends asked me if I had seen the breasts on a rather curvy bikini clad woman!

I saw a 10, I mean a real 10, walking up the subway stairs. I haven't seen many girls hotter than this one in K land. I and 4 or 5 dudes were trailing her. I was the only one really checking her out. Reflects negatively on all of us I think haha.

And you only realized this in Korea? Catty women stares happen everywhere. It's in the female genes.

Believe it or not, women, whether Korean, Western or wherever, will check out other women. Razz Not always in disdain. I do so to check out how they're working their style. Maybe they can get inspiration from it, etc. Stuff like that.

And yes, of course, sometimes it's for competition. I mean, some of you guys scope out sometimes as well, don't you? We get a little nervous about it. Embarassed

Then there are some girls who are just so insecure that they'll hate every chick, which is pretty sad, but can't do much about them.

How about this,

Two women show up wearing the same dress: the evil eye.

Two dudes show up wearing the same suit: high fives, woo hooo!

^

haha

Seems to me there isn't as much variety in clothes for guys. The shopping malls and dept. stores always seem to have about 20 stores for women and 2 or 3 for men.

Umm... all women look at each other, not even just competitively.

Of course I'm not going to point it out to my husband because, quite frankly, he doesn't share my interest in female hair/fashion/accessories. ''

Are you not aware of the female "gay crush." This is where a female admires another woman in a non-sexual way but rather to emulate her in some way (appearance, personality, whatever).

It's not cultural, I assure you.

Somewhat related, women consider compliments from other women about a million times more valuable than compliments from males. When I look at another female in that "head to toe way" and then look her in the eye, she knows I think her style is down and, quite frankly, kick ass. If the look is returned, I too receive a boost of confidence.

If a dude looks at me like that, he's probably a creep. Or a tasteful and kickass homosexual.

No rage. But I find it hilarious when dudes think they can discern female culture without any actual research on the subject. (Quantitative would be best. Good luck)

I noticed this years ago, and now rather than check out the woman myself, I look around at others to see who is doing the checking out, and find it's more entertaining watching just how obvious they are about it. No subtlety, no trying to hide their jealousy or disdain; entertaining to say the least.

Well, I'll definitely admit to checking out a really hot chick first, but then yeah, I'll look around and see what the reaction is from others. That is a lot of fun. I also watch how people react to people who are not so attractive or have an apparent infirmity. It's fascinating to watch the tell-tale signs, the body language. I can almost predict what they'll do. We truly are part of the animal kingdom.

Why not sterotype not one sexuality but all of them!
